  1. Ah first post, ‘They’ said it was better then Return of the Jedi. I will see it soon.

  2. No, it didn’t entirely suck; in fact, it didn’t suck at all. And it wasn’t exactly good; it was great. So right on!

    (I have a bad feeling about this….)

  3. I’m someone who firmly believes in keeping expectations extremely low when it comes to movies, and yet I can’t quite bring myself to go see this one.

  4. Kevin, did you get your should and your could reversed in that post? I’ll be seeing this one next week sometime. I suspect I will not mention it in my blog.

  5. I enjoyed immensely. The only main plague (again) is Lucas-writing, Lucas-transitions and Lucas-non-subtlety…but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. Runs rings around the first 2 and I don’t even try to compare any of the pre’s to the originals.

  6. I agree with Dave Pittman. Some real clunkers in there but it really does the job when it needs to. Basically it’s saved by the fact that Ian McDiarmid is very good and Ewan MacGregor is great.

  7. I also thought it was better than it might have been and overall pretty good. The two things that bothered me most had to do with transitions, one of which would be a spoiler if I mentioned it, so I won’t.

The other is obviously the point of the movie – the turning of Anakin to the dark side. Is it just me, or did that seem just a bit too abrupt? (Dave, is this what you meant by Lucas-transitions?)

But overall I thought it was quite enjoyable.

(Not that this is relevant, but from what I heard yesterday it took in $16.5M from just the midnight showing. If that’s true it has to be a record…)

I was always more interested in Obi Wan and Yoda then Vader. The Ewoks were awkeward but kept relevant by the ausome Han, Leia, Luke story.

  9. John H: Yes. From “What have I done?” to “I pledge myself to my new dread lord” in oh-point-two seconds. I turned to my husband and said, “When did Anakin get fitted with an Alignment Toggle?”My husband, of course, said “Shhh.” But by then he was getting pretty practiced at it. I came to the movie wanting to heckle. Oh so badly. But on my right and my left were members of the legions of the devout. *Sigh*

  10. The movie finishes oddly; maybe it’s the lack of immediate closure, with a sort of macro-closure (of the saga) complete. It felt to me like a final adjustment of all the pieces, so that they were all just so, and if one just waited past the credits, Episode IV would commence…

Definitely better than the first two. Rates higher on the ‘limbs-lopped’ scale too.
