Printilation

About five minutes after I noted in this comment thread that Amazon and BN.com seem to be in short supply of Old Man’s War at the moment, I got an e-mail from Tor letting me know that both OMW and The Ghost Brigades are going back for third printings. Nice to have a publisher who can read my mind, and act on my desires.

Hey. It’s worth a shot.

  1. Oh, say it isn’t so. A Mustang? I would lose all respect for you.

Repeat after me: Sports cars do not have a solid rear axle.

  2. A Mustang? Aren’t you a bit young for a mid-life crisis?

Besides, if desires are being granted, can’t you think of something more impressive than a Ford?

  3. Well, see, that’s why I want it now, so I won’t be lumped in with the mid-life crisis people.

And I’ve always had a thing for Mustangs. I’m really not a car person in any way, except for the Mustang. So it’s more of a “always wanted one” thing.

  4. Well, it’s a good thing you told us you’re sitting pretty with your writing income. Otherwise, even if your wish were to be granted, with the V8, you’d not be able to afford to put gas in the thing!

  5. Hybrid… Mustang.

The idea frightens me. Now, if you could refit an 1967 (the really angular era) mustang with something new and slick, I’d at least understand the attraction…

  6. As the owner of a Mustang GT (2002, silver hardtop) I highly recommend it. Mine isn’t the super decked-out model though. I just figured if I was gonna buy a Mustang, then I wanted the V8, darnit, and it was worth it. They actually aren’t as expensive as you might think….(of course I don’t have a long commute or anything and only have to fill it up twice a month.) You know you want to join the Mustang club. *grin*

  7. How about the Shelby Cobra GT500 Mustang due sometime this year? 450 horsepower. Not an advertisement, just my drooling; a 98 SVT Cobra owner. And yes, the car has been blessed by Carol Shelby!

  8. Now…moving away from the Mustang and back to the issue of reprints. I finally ordered copies of OMW and TGB from QPB yesterday — hardback — and I’m quite looking forward to reading them (I’m currently enjoying Agent to the Stars).

And my question is — do you make more, less or the same from a book club sale than from a traditional bookseller sale?

    Just curious.

And congratulations on the Hugo nom.

  9. Okay. Answered my own question by using the search. (I’m a pretty new reader to your blog, so hadn’t seen that earlier post.)

So, to coin a phrase, never mind.

  10. One of my nephews long ago passed up a change to get an original Shelby Cobra w/427 engine, in order to get a Dodge Charger RT with a 440 and 8 mpg. He could outrace police cars, but came to regret passing on the Shelby due to youth and ignorance.
