A few notes:

* Whateveresque registration is open and will remain open until about 10pm tonight. Come join the fun! As always, here’s a primer on how to pick a Whateveresque name that doesn’t look like spam. And also, of course, feel free to introduce yourself once your registration’s approved, in the “All About You” section. The regulars love to say hello to the new folks.

* I’m slightly behind in mailing, both real world and electronic, so: If you were one of the three winners of the Zoe’s Tale contest, your prizes are going out in the mail in the next couple of days. If you sent me e-mail in the last week or so and I’ve not responded yet, I’ll be ploughing through it today. If you don’t have a response by this time tomorrow and you wanted one, go ahead and resend.

* Also as a head’s up, we’re going to be having another contest here very soon, one I think you’re going to have a whole lot of fun with. Details will be forthcoming. But for now: gird yourself.

* Also, clearly: Made it home alive and without any delays to speak of. I love it when that happens.

  1. Unfortunately, I was about to go through airport security when I took your advice and girded myself.

They didn’t take kindly to the girding and I spent three hours in a room with a large man and a rubber glove. Thanks for nothing, Scalzi!

  2. Ian; spending three hours in a room with a large man and a rubber glove reminds me of a bad date I had. Not because of the glove, but because it such a boring date. Thank God I had a book to read.

  3. Okay done! Wait . . . reread the post. . . now I’ve got lines all over me . . . gird/grid . . . very different. Thank goodness I didn’t grid my loins . . .

  4. Patrick M:

I get several dozen legitimate (i.e. real human on the other end) e-mails a day, and the amount is always growing. I got a few hundred e-mails to look through. I’m only going to respond to the ones I think I need to.

  5. Also, clearly: Made it home alive and without any delays to speak of. I love it when that happens.

In psychology, they call that intermittent reward.
Without that, you’d stop flying. They only let you have a nice flight every once in a while to keep you trying for it. Kinda like having slot machines pay off a little every once in a while.

This is the place where you leave the things you think
