Hate Mail in the Mail

Published by John Scalzi at 8:29 am

Subterranean Press has announced that Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded: A Decade of Whatever 1998 – 2008 is now shipping to everyone who pre-ordered the book and is also now otherwise generally available. To which I say: Yay! That makes me happy. If you’ve been putting off ordering this book until it was actually physically available, then I guess today’s your lucky day, Lucky McLuckerson, you. You can order it direct from Subterranean (in which case you also get a limited edition chapbook called “Waiting for Athena”), or from Amazon. Ignore the “Shops in 3 to 5 Weeks” note currently appended to the Amazon page; it takes their system a little while to catch up to the reality on the ground.

I’m really excited about this book. It’s very cool to see a whole decade’s worth of work put into book form. Thanks, Bill Schafer and everyone at Subterranean, for making this book happen.

Congratulations on seeing it made material! Incidentally, is this the point when I’m to remind you about my free copy?

A nice plug just appeared on Instapundit:

“SO I FINISHED JOHN SCALZI’S ZOE’S TALE LAST NIGHT. I had meant to read it sooner, but then the New York Post paid me to write a review of Neal Stephenson’s Anathem, and since Anathem is long, and the Post was paying me, Zoe’s Tale got set aside for a while. I knew it would be good — the Scalzi brand doesn’t disappoint — but it was still better than I expected. Very nice.”

Bill Schafer at Subterranean Press is a subtle genius. I got a newsletter (which is how I discovered John Scalzi in the first place) from him yesterday which declares: Orson Scott Card — STONEFATHER to be Sold Out on Publication.

Among several other things, further down the newsletter is the message that Your Hate Mail Will be Graded is being picked up from the printer today…

Since I have seen several other Sub Press books be sold out the day he received the books from the printer, I of course went to the site and ordered Hate Mail 30 seconds later. Whew, probably just in time.

What does a book shop for?

I thought I check Whatever every day, but I never saw the post on who the winners were in the Hate Mail contest to get on the jacket cover. Clearly, I was not one of the winners… :(

But I was interested in seeing your favorite hate mail, you being a connoisseur and all.

(now that’s an odd thing to type anywhere but here..)

Back when _You’r not fooling anyone … _ was announced, it was immediately sold out on Subterranean (if I remember correctly). I went to Amazon to order one, got as far as the shopping cart, and we had a power failure. Much later, when both my computer and my DSL line were both working again, Amazon was sold out of the few copies they had. So I gave up. A couple of weeks later it showed up. I’m not really sure how that happened. It was legit though; I even got charged for it.

So if you want a Scalzi book, don’t dilly-dally. You might not be as lucky as I was.

Yay! I love it when fun things show up in my mailbox! I’ll have to actually check the thing more than once a week.

Can not wait to see my copy. Yes I said see. I am looking forward to reading it, but I am way more excited to hold the book in my own hands and gaze upon that awesome cover!

Wait, I stumbled across a Jonathon Livingston Seagull parody book a few years before I saw JLS (the movie). But the book I saw was something like Otto Von Vulture (or some other germanish vulture) not a chicken. [Details are hazy, I was probably 11 when I saw the book].

So that means there are at least 2 JLS parody books? I’d google this, but I’m afraid that google would tell me the answer….

I’m getting mail, a parcle even… Woot and excitment.
Thanks for the heads up now I will be tapping my feet waiting for the parcle man/woman to arrive…

Er, that JLS comment belongs in the next thread. Ah well.
