Quick Music Review: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, It’s Blitz!

I like it. The band gets into a time machine, goes back to 1981, grabs a synth, and mopes grandly. Sometimes you can dance to it (like with the first single, “Zero”), other times you’ll just sway back and forth in that dark music club of your mind, trying to make sense of it all (“Little Shadow”). The album is best at the beginning and end, but the whole thing is pretty darn good.

  1. Woo hoo! New album. Didn’t know that was coming out. Sadly I’m supposed to wait another month for it.

Nice to know you’re a writer of good taste. Yeah Yeah Yeahs have ear-wormed me for more than a year now. Before that it was Snake River Conspiracy. Blondie was threatening to take over, but a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album should hopefully keep that risk at bay.

  2. This isn’t a bad album; they do try to stretch out a bit but they seem to be a band that works best on EPs; their EPs are great, It’s when they attempt albums that things start to get a little thin, music wise.

  3. I liked Show Your Bones better. There’s not enough shrieky guitar noise on It’s Blitz. I really liked Gold Lion and Phenomena of of SYB.

Right now I’m listening to the new Decemberists album, The Hazards of Love. It’s somewhat harder than their normal far, which I like. I want music with a kick.

This is the place where you leave the things you think
