  1. October would be my favorite month if the weather would just cooperate- it was 90 degrees, yesterday, and probably hotter today! Doesn’t the weather realize that I can’t drink hot chocolate in this heat? grrrr.

  2. I think you’re the only person I know for whom a rugged, durable lawn tractor with an extra-wide mowing blade set and mulch-collecting trailer is a dire necessity.

That is rather pleasant to look at, indeed!

  3. Which begs the question: “Do you mow your own lawn?”

My bet: Yes, as it gives one plenty of time to kick around ideas in their head with minimal interruption.

  4. Damn you’re a good photographer. The light of October is a thing of beauty, and I’ve rarely seen it so exquisitely captured.

  5. “The seller of lightning rods arrived just ahead of the storm. He came along the street of Green Town, Illinois, in the late cloudy October day, sneaking glances over his shoulder. Somewhere not so far back, vast lightnings stomped the earth. Somewhere, a storm like a great beast with terrible teeth could not be denied.
“So the salesman jangled and clanged his huge leather kit in which oversized puzzles of ironmongery lay unseen but which his tongue conjured from door to door until he came at last to a lawn which was cut all wrong.”

Just so we remember whose month October is.

  6. October…the one month of the year that I regret having moved south!

Come January, though, I will be very, very happy I live here, instead of there.

  7. ohmigod. I just realized that the background of your site has a faint image of your head, staring at me.

How long have you been watching me!?

  8. I miss trees that change colours. Got nothing but pines and palms where I live, and the few leafy trees usually stay green year long.

I mean yeah, our heating bill for the winter is practically nill, but I miss having seasons.

  9. October is the month where I decide I’d much rather rake leaves than cut grass. In November I begin to have doubts about that. In December my numb fingers and I can’t wait to cut the grass again in the spring instead of doing all this &#^%@ raking!

  10. October is the best month in a few North American regions like New England and the Great Lakes, I blame the maple trees.

October is ConClave, where you have never been why is that?, football and Halloween!

This is the place where you leave the things you think
