Will You Stay With Me, Will You Be My Love

I’m reminded from time to time that in fact this is quite a lovely song.

And I can hear it without thinking “Michelle Kwan isn’t skating to this AGAIN, is she?”

Saw her live four times – three of them she skated to Fields of Gold.

Do love the song – Eva Cassidy’s version of Danny Boy is amazing as well.

  2. Lauretta says:

Sting certainly has his moments as a composer. His new Winter’s Night CD is pretty decent. NPR did a story on it – last weekend? Weekend before last? Something like that.

    I miss Eva…great voice.

  3. Bob says:

Ah, Eva Cassidy. What a voice she had.

  4. MG Farrelly says:

I was in Scotland a few years back and late one night these musicians at the hotel bar were picking at various songs by Sting off “Ten Summoner’s Tales” including this one. Gave me a whole new appreciation for Sting as a composer. When I heard Eva’s take on it, I realized there’s a reason the man has a house made of gold houses somewhere in England. Lovely night music Mr. Scalzi.

  5. Sarah says:

Ah Eva. What a voice she had. Thanks for the memory, Scalzi.

  6. Janice in GA says:

You have good taste. I love this version of the song.

  7. I do have to say, its been quite some time since I have heard this song. I love it. Thanks for the memory trip. This version is beautiful!

  8. El says:

When I first heard Sting’s version, I was baffled–fields of Bali? Is it set in Bali or what?

Then I googled it–Oh, *barley*. Got it!

    Love it either way.

First time I heard OF Eva Cassidy’s version was as a reference in Terry Moore’s Strangers In Paradise. Bought the album on the strength of that small print and so glad I did! Beautiful, haunting voice, and a truly regrettable loss.

  10. Haplo Peart says:

Damn You, I said I was not purchasing anything else on iTunes this month…now I’m a liar!

Thats a very nice version of song, now I’ll probably be addicted to the artist too! I’ve loved the song since Sting did his guest spot on “Studio 60″ (I miss that show)…

Ah thanks once again for hitting my cultural nerve. :)

  11. Lefty says:

I’ve never heard any version but Sting’s. Mr. Sumner’s is quite lovely but I do believe I like Ms. Cassidy’s better. Thanks so much for expanding my musical horizon just a bit.

If so, you’ll have lots of very good company.

I think I like Eva’s version better of pretty much anything I’ve ever heard her sing. Well, maybe not “What a Wonderful World”, but hey, I’m not sure it’s possible to top Louis on that.

  14. Barstool Babe says:

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful song and singer. This is a great way to start my day.

  15. Rick York says:

    Thank you John.

  16. crabby lady says:

Eva was magnificent. What a loss. Her “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” makes me cry.

  17. Anne C. says:

Wow. I’d never heard a cover of that song. I still prefer the original, as I prefer sounds in lower registers, but hearing another version heightens my awareness of other elements of the song.
    Thanks for posting it!
