I’m Entirely Unmotivated to Write Anything Here Today, So Here’s Kermit Singing “The Rainbow Connection”

Yes, that’s his real voice. However, I have it on good authority that his banjo playing is completely dubbed.

  1. More zombies about to die in your free time, John?

  2. GlennS says:

I’ll see your Rainbow Connection, and raise you Tom Smith’s “A Boy and His Frog.”

    Grab the tissues.

  3. Simon says:

    Are you rehearsing this one?

  4. Sean Eric Fagan says:

So instead of being Milli Vanilli, Kermit the Frog is a Monkee?

  5. Meg Spencer says:

My boyfriend’s hidden talent is doing a really good imitation of this song. My hidden talent is never getting mosquito bites that last longer than one hour. I’d say that his is more entertaining, but mine is more useful.

    The end.

  6. Joe Iriarte says:

Actually, the only Monkee who didn’t play an instrument was Davy Jones.

  7. Joe Iriarte says:

The next time you’re in Orlando–and don’t bother protesting, because sooner or later everyone comes to Orlando–go to Jellyrolls, a dueling rock and roll piano bar at the Boardwalk Resort at Disney World, and request “Rainbow Connection.” (Ideally your request will be accompanied by a five spot.)

    You’ll be glad you did.

  8. Stephen Dawson says:
  9. Tyler Tork says:

That looks like lip-syncing to me!

  10. Into the Sky says:

    Best Day Ever.

  11. Greg says:

(holds lighter app up in air)

  12. Chris says:

    It’s gonna be ok Kermit!

  13. TOS says:

Such fond memories! I remember the first time I heard this song. It was decades ago, we were driving from Stockton to Travis AFB, listening to Kasey Casem’s Top 40 on the radio and “Rainbow Connection” came on. I listened for a bit, then said “Pretty song, but not a very good singer.” A moment later, Kasey announced “That was Kermit the Frog singing Rainbow Connection”. I said, “Oh, well, not so bad for a frog.”

  14. Tom N says:

I am assuming that you are practicing this on your ukelele. It’s a great song. Really.

  15. Sean Eric Fagan says:

I had never heard of “A Boy and His Frog.” I am glad that is no longer the case.

  16. JJS says:

I never heard of Boy and his Frog either. Really touching song.

  17. tikaanidog says:

@Stephen Dawson – grab the hankie is right, well played. But the other one, just so wrong!

  18. Eric Saveau says:

The most fun I’ve ever had with this song was at a karaoke night years and years ago where a guy performed the song as though Kermit was a paranoid schizophrenic who was off his meds – just imagine “Have you been half-asleep… AND HAVE YOU HEARD VOICES!!!?!?!?!?!!!?!” it was howlingly funny.

  19. Nekussa says:

@Eric: I’ve heard something similar, but done with more of a Cthulhu-induced madness spin. :)

  20. Scorpius says:

    Gah, I hate muppets.

  21. Mike Kranjcevich says:

First take out your old 45 (you kids don’t know what these are), second apply thusly to your digital turntable and even with the years of dust and scratches STILL have a better version than that YouTube version.

But I still love that tune…..

  22. John Mark Ockerbloom says:

I can’t help imagining Scorpius delivering that line like Le Curé in the English dub of Diva. (The line in response: “You hate everything.”)

  23. Joe Iriarte says:

Scorpius, how long ago did your soul wither away? :(

  24. Eridani says:

This was the first song I ever learned when I was a little girl. I’d go around singing it until my mom wanted to strangle me. ;)

  25. Fletcher says:

Stephen Dawson @ 8: Is it wrong that now I want to see Kermit sing “Everybody Hurts” by REM? That makes me a bad person, right?

  26. Ruth says:

Oh no! I spent most of Monday with this song stuck in my head. I’m not going to listen! But I fear the damage is done.

  27. PrivateIron says:

Original Post: you take that back, you damn dirty ape! Kermit was a great banjo player, much better than Winston Chuchill. Steve Martin didn’t even dare pick up a banjo in that movie ’cause he knew he would get served.

  28. Joe Iriarte says:

    Fletcher: That. Sounds. Awesome!

  29. Eric Saveau says:

    Gah, I hate muppets.

We’ll let them know to stay off your lawn :-D

  30. Sam M-B says:

For those like me who just can’t get enough of the frog, recently the incredibly talented Andrew Bird sang “Bein’ Green” on NPR. And it’s all part of an effort called “The Green Album” which features Weezer singing “Rainbow Connection”, among other contributors and contributions:

(And yes, now I want to hear Kermit singing “Everybody Hurts”, too.)
