  1. ‘The Problem with Promises’ and ‘Blood and Iron’ both sound good. And the Nebula Showcase is bound to be a good read :).

  2. Books are indeed a perfect Valentine gift; give a book you love to anyone you’re not sure about. If they hate it, get somebody else for next Valentine’s Day.

  3. @sistercoyote: Must be the font, because that’s how I read it, too.

Also, seeing that this stack has books by both Leigh Evans and Stephen Leigh, made me think of the neighbor on “Home Improvement”, who never showed his whole face. If they could have a Wilson Wilson, why not a Leigh Leigh?

  4. I’m curious, how many of these advance books do you actually read? And what do you do with them when you’re done?

(You’ve probably already answered this question somewhere on this blog, and I did search, but you have an awful lot of posts!)

  5. I don’t want to slam design, but the only book that looks like it will stand the test of time on a shelf is the classically inspired design of “Black Moon” which looks like it is from the Fifties, and has “retro chic.” When I see the words “The Blood Guard” it automatically makes me think of author Stephen R. Donaldson, an icon. So unless that text is a WoW serial novel or something, it seems to be derivative twice; as an editor, I wouldn’t do that to one of my authors. The one I would read would be “Nebula Awards Showcase 2014.”

I am seeking to be one of Scalzi’s insects. These are just the opinions of a person who still buys books rather than sells them. I hope I do not sound petty.

  6. I just went and pre-ordered the Nebula Awards Showcase, so I suppose I’m most excited about that. I’ll also probably forget I did it and buy another copy while at WisCon. :)

  7. Ah. I’ve always loved the Artesia RPG as an artifact, full of details about an interesting world, as something to read but that I might never get to play, but could never really get into the graphic novels. I had no idea The Barrow was even happening. Pre-ordered, even though it’s coming out tomorrow.

This is the place where you leave the things you think
