As proof that just about every song sounds better in ska form: “Sugar Sugar,” interpreted by Bigger Thomas. The Archies should weep in gratitude. Speaking of which, here’s an mp3 of the original song, featuring real live singer Ron Dante (you didn’t think Archie really did his own tunes, did you? Dude, he was totally fake!).

Well, I’m not going to go all the way to saying I’m unimpressed, but I’m nonplussed by the vocals…the orchestration, however, is a decided improvement over the original.
Sounds more like reggae than ska to me, although and insipid reggae at that. Both versions would play well in an elevator.
I’m afraid I agree with the previous comments — this song simply may not be redeemable, though this effort inspires me to attempt a bluegrass version.
