Going to Verona? Stay at the Hotel Scalzi!
I am unaffiliated. However, were I to go to Verona for some reason, I suppose it would be difficult for me not to stay there.

Oh yeah?
: )
Well, that didn’t work. Read that “Oh yeah” as a link to this, below:

John — I think I know that place. I go to a conference annually near Trento, and you change trains in Verona to get there. I stayed in a hotel up the block from a building that, if memory serves, is the Scalzi.
The next conference is in January; I’m invited but don’t know yet if I’ll be able to go. If I can, I’ll swing through Verona and snap some pics or get you some branded swag.
If you decide to go yourself, get your hands on the yearly summer schedule of operas in the Roman amphitheatre, and go any time except August. The building itself — 2,000 years old — is as much an attraction as the opera is, but the whole thing is a memorable experience.
