Quick Note of Thanks

You know, I just wanted to say “thanks” to everyone who has been sending e-mails or comments about spotting Old Man’s War at your local stores. It’s really been heartening to get the heads up and especially the pictures from all over the place (The picture above, incidentally, is from Texas, courtesy of one of the Lone Star State’s finest online diarists). As an author, it’s very reassuring to see the book really is making its way into the stores (and also, making its way out of stores). So, again, thanks bunches. I really do appreciate it, and I additionally wonder how novelists in the pre-Internet age kept from going nuts when their books came out, and they wondered if they were actually in stores, or if their publishers were telling them another tall one. Documentary evidence — the hallmark of the 21st century.
I can verify (but not document, can’t find the digital camera right now) that there was one copy of Old Man’s War Saturday at a Borders in Atlanta, but now it’s mine.
Well, if it must be removed from circulation, I can’t think of a better way.
None spotted yet at the Borders in San Rafael. Of course, it could be that they are sold out.
Went into a Barnes & Noble in Edison, New Jersey last night & asked for it. They told me it was in the computer with a ship date in January, 2005, but they could order it for me, and I could pick it up in 5-11 business days.
I said, “Couldn’t I just go to your website and have you send it to my home in 5-11 business days?” “Yes,” said the rather bewildered clerk…
I’ll be in New York tomorrow – probably have better luck finding it there…
Well, our store has it, so it exists in Toronto. And I would have taken a picture of it, but the camera on the new phone? You wouldn’t have recognized the book cover…
I’ve been trying not to frequent the local bookstores because my spending habits run amok when I do….
BUT.
I saw the Tor ad in the recent Locus and pointed it out to my boyfriend. (Maybe he will get it for me for Xmas.)
There’s a Tor ad in Locus? Why doesn’t anyone tell me these things? Now, of course, I’m going to have to grovel and ask someone with a Locus subscription to send me a picture. Hint, hint.
I don’t have a scanner. But I do have a digital camera, so I’ll see what I can do. :)
There was one copy on the SF shelf in the good local Borders. “Was,” because it’s now downstairs, on the dining room table.
So, it’ll be a little while before you get another sale in the Albany area. Unless, of course, they had a big display of them over in the “New Fiction” area, that I didn’t notice.

Given what I know to be the size of the first print run, no, you probably got the only one. On the other hand it’ll just mean that much quicker to the second printing.
We can’t find the batteries for the digital camera. But I will take a picture when I can.
Well, shit. Still no sightings here, and I’m not all that far from Rob.
