Winter Wonderland — Or So They Say

It’s been snowing, it is snowing, and from I am informed by others more knowledgeable about such matters than I, it will continue snowing at least through tomorrow. So naturally, some idiot took this opportunity to knock over my mailbox, occasioning me to go out into said snow. As long as I was out there, I got some pictures. You may see them after the cut (because they are large, and I don’t want to burden those with slow connections).

  1. Gorgeous. That’s what winter looks like in other places, huh? Well, I’m about to put on a t-shirt and take my motorcycle on a pleasure ride to the beach. If Dubya still thinks global warming is a theory that can use some more study, perhaps he should spend Christmas in L.A.

  2. Yes, and I should be calling everyone around me wimps, since I’m from Cleveland.

Except that I left Cleveland precisely because of weather like this.

  3. That’s what my home looks like too. It’s been snowing for about 9 hours straight now. I couldn’t get my car up the hill to my apartment, so I parked at an apartment at the bottom of the hill. If they get around to plowing the hill, I’ll go get it.

p.s. sorry if there’s a double post. When the page reloaded, it didn’t show my comments.

  5. Those pictures are enough to make me miss snow. Then again, I haven’t experienced snow in so long, I think I forgot what it’s really like.

I really love the picture of Kodi deep in the snow and the one of the house in the background. Stunning.

  6. They are really nice pictures. Particularly your dog lightly dusted in snow.

And they remind me of Byron’s basic stance on snow (which I wholeheartedly embrace). Snow is FANTASTIC… as long as it’s not on MY porch (your porch, property, and street are just fine though).

  7. I love snow. Always have. I live in Columbus, Ohio. Took me 2 hours to get home from work tonight (about 20 miles). I work near a mall, and there were several insane people trying to get to the mall and many trying to leave at 5:00 in these conditions.

Freezing rain now. Can’t wait for that morning commute.

  8. Got several inches here, too, and at least as many people in the ditch near our house. The streets here are too narrow and too tightly turned for real traffic (which is weird, seeing’s how they were laid out back in the days when time zones changed between the hood and trunk of your average Joe Bluecollar).

We did choose to risk some chance of injury to make a short sortie into civilization for some last minute shopping, the main arteries being mostly clear and the pickup having a nice weighty load of snow-ice in the back. But after we got back, it was icing over and starting to come down again on top of it all.

However, ethics won out over hunger as I decided against calling out for a pizza (not being willing to have the blood of faintly innocent Clearasil models on my hands). A conscience is a pesky thing sometimes (she sayeth grumpily, having spent the night grazing unsatisfactorily on leftovers and odds-n-ends). And from the looks of it, any pizza in the near future’s gonna have to be airlifted in, which is no good because rotor-wash always means cold pie.

    Sigh.

  9. I said it on a later thread, and I’ll repeat it here: “I’m jealous!”

What good is winter without snow to play in? We’ve got only a light dusting and I want more, lots more! I want to start the snow blower!

One fun thing to try on an incredibly cold, calm night. Blow soap bubbles and watch them freeze. Very cool.

  10. There’s mist settling on my monitor here in sunny (okay, light drizzle) Canberra just from displaying those images. Gawd, who’d want a white chrissy, anyway?
