OMW & TGB: SciFi Essentials Books for January

As many of you may remember, The Sci Fi Channel is promoting both Old Man’s War and The Ghost Brigades as their Sci Fi Essentials books for this month. This means that each gets a special page on the SciFi.com site, which includes an excerpt from the first chapter of each. So if you’ve not read Old Man’s War yet, here’s a chance to catch up — and for those of you who can’t wait for February, here’s a taste of what’s coming up in The Ghost Brigades. In both cases, enjoy.

Please note, incidentally, that the release dates for the books on both pages is incorrect. Old Man’s War is now available in both hardcover and trade paperback, while The Ghost Brigades is officially available 2/21/06.

All in all, though, not a bad way to start off the new year.

  1. My congratulations to you, and most especially to your publicist. Kickass work on someone’s part. May I suggest sending a nice bottle their way. Bind the kine and all of that.

  2. Trust me, I plan to spread the love all around Tor. They are excellent people.

Rick: She’s not much of a Journey fan, alas. Although she’d love to have Offspring come ’round. Would put a whole new spin on their hit “Come Out and Play.”

  3. Naw – you’ve still got wins on me; I probably won’t be able to support myself by my pen this year — but this is a step in the right direction, at least.

    Good on ya, I say!

  4. Just (minutes ago) finished “Old Man’s War.” Thanks to Scalzi for cranking it out of his imagination. Looking forward to “Ghost Brigades.”

  5. Sweet!

Read Old Man’s War this past weekend (wished I’d stayed home to finish it instead of going to a New Year’s party!). Great stuff! (By the way, on page 72 of the paperback, there seems to be an extra “Harry said” dialogue tag, which I pass on in case there should be a further printing.)

I’m definitely looking forward to Ghost Brigades!

  6. I went looking for your books at the SF bookstore, but there weren’t any of your fiction, I’m sorry to say. (I didn’t check the non-fiction.) The website claims that the OMW trade paperback isn’t out yet, and the hardcover isn’t in the system.

I’ll give it another couple of months before I order them off Amazon, though.
