I’ve Got a Boehner

How’s this for conflicted: My representative to Congress, John Boehner, is going to be the next House majority leader. So on one hand: Not really my first choice for my personal representative (not like I have much choice, mind you, since he’s running without any real opposition this election cycle), and I’m all for making him minority leader ASAP. On the other hand: Rock on, my congressional district is going to roll in the sweet, sweet love that comes with having your Congressman in charge of things. Hopefully Boehner will avoid doing something entirely stupid like handing out lobbyist checks on the floor of the House, as he’s been known to do in the past. I think maybe he’s learned his lesson.

  1. He’s a K-Street poster child, so I’m sure he’ll be knee-deep in some scandal soon enough.

May the taste of pork that’s extorted from the rest of us taste like ashes.

  3. We had a good Congressman in Rob Portman, until Bush screwed things up by making him a cabinet member. Now we’re stuck with that vapid harpie Jean Schmidt.

Yeesh, I hate Ohio politicians anymore.

  4. Hobson’s not that great either? But the only person that seems to run against him is the looney from Yellow Springs.

  5. Interesting that Boehner was elected on the second ballot. The first ballot was thrown out when there were more votes cast than House Repubs actually in attendence.

  6. May the taste of pork that’s extorted from the rest of us taste like ashes.Speaking from Boston, let me chew on the Big Dig for a moment and report:Nope, still porktastically good. Baco-licious, even.

  7. Hey I’m stuck with Nancy Pelosi. Every time she appears on TV (a lot) I expect to say “I’m startled!”

  8. Alkali, Boston’s got no right to talk about bacolicious anything. Have a look at this data, albeit from 2003:

Mass is 44th on the food chain, getting back a measly 78 cents on the dollar in federal monies. Ohio used to be able to play the righteous card, getting only a buck-oh-two per dollar, but I suspect that will change, barring a Democratic revolution in ’06.

I sincerely admire the optimism of you young people. It’s absolutely adorable.
