Sprint pulled its collective head out of its collective ass, and now I have an Internet connection at home, again.
Catching up on e-mail and work and then I’ll be back later. You kids have fun until then.
Okay, but while you’re away, could you consider riffing on Dave Munger’s comment from the last entry about the abomination that is “Open Phones” on talk radio?
I don’t listen to talk radio, so I have no idea what “Open phones” are.
That’s too bad…I was really looking forward to hearing your take.
FYI, it’s when the radio host takes calls from whatever yahoo wants to call in to discuss the topic of the day, or more often than not, to wax neurotic on whatever their pet buggaboo happens to be.
Praise be to your local library for their computer access. Oftentimes, the library is the only online access point for many people, not just the Sprint-screwed. We have hoardes of folks coming in to fill out online applications for several major employers who no longer offer paper applications. Many of these folks have limited or no computer skills and often low-literacy. If you are a patient person with time on your hands, consider approaching your library about volunteering to organize sessions where locals can get help filling out job apps. –rochelle the librarian

Oh, agreed. In fact, allt he other folks who were using the computers while I was there appeared to be using them to look at job sites or other such things. It’s a real resource.

How come no one remembers “Fer-de-Lance”, aka ‘Snakes on a Sub’?
(Even I barely remember it.)

Fer-de-Lance? I don’t think I ever heard of it. After reading the IMDB description, I think I was better off that way.

I’d riff on “open phones” over on my blog but I can never bring myself to listen for more than about 2 minutes. Maybe some day I should force myself to listen to an entire hour of open phones and just liveblog it.

Ah yes, Fer de Lance with David Jannsen and Hope Lange. One of my all-time favorite ABC TV movies because: the story continues while the credits are rolling. It’s like, ohmygosh, we’ve been through all this and now while the others are being rescued, David Jannsen is taking a well-deserved rest and the LAST SNAKE has fallen under his blanket… and we aren’t going to find out whether he lives or dies???
I love movies where we either get a bit more after the credits, the credits are entertaining, or we ignore the credits because the movie is not over and we’re in a cliffhanger. (grin)
And no one I’ve ever known has ever seen this movie.
