Its Friday John, most of us don’t get much better…assuming we don’t have something unpleasant like a family reunion to go to. :)

Sorry to hear your morning didn’t go smoothly. Hope it’s better now.

Antsy and I want to go home. Being at work is boring now. BORED NOW.
Wow, sentence construction. I do not have a friend named Antsy who would also like to go home, but maybe I will start calling someone that.
I’m sorry about the bad morning. Have ibuprofen, will travel! Not to Oakland, though. Only because The Man is keeping me here, shackled to my desk for the promise of a crumb under his thumb. Otherwise I’d be there with ibuprofen in an instant! Or maybe three hours, depending on flights.
Damn The Man!
Oh well, I hear they have ibuprofen in Oakland stores, too.
Actually, day is going well, just ready to start the weekend. Except I have to precinct walk for a congressional candidate tomorrow. I hate precinct walking.
Time to curl up under my desk and doze. Luckily I can hide my shackles so The Man doesn’t notice.
(Geez, I think I’m getting loopy…)
Emily: You can call me Antsy. I’m always in the market for new nicknames.
John: Sorry to hear about the headache. I’ve lost too many mornings to those lately. Mine tend to be sinus-related, triggered by seasonal changes.
Hopefully caffeine has helped you, and that your aggravation has been reduced as the day has gone on.
And I’m fine, thanks for asking.
Other than being embarassed at misspelling the URL for my own blog for the last month.
HeyHey Mr Scalzi, just finished reading Ghost Brigades here at work and I thought I jump on and say I’m really looking forward to Lost Colony.
I have to admit that I started reading the Whatever about 2 years ago due to your column in OPM, and I’ve just recently started reading your actual books. Loved them all so far. I’ve Read Agent to the Stars, OMW and Ghost Brigades. You’ve revitalized my passion for Sci-fi. Thank you sir.

Kinda reminds you of college huh?

JOHN: And how are you?
INTERCOM VOICE: We’re sending a squad up.
JOHN: Uh, uh, negative. We had a reactor leak here now. Give us a few minutes to lock it down. Large leak…very dangerous.
INTERCOM VOICE: Who is this? What’s your operating number?
*John blasts the comlink and it explodes.*
JOHN: Boring conversation anyway. (yelling down the hall) Luke! We’re going to have company!
I’m fabulous, never better. And today I’ve got plans to leave work early and surf the Wavehouse’s 8ft standing wave. I’ve been out due to injury, so looking forward to it. Check me out at 4pm PST. http://www.wavehouse.com
John:
I have managed to simultaneously get bronchitis and a sinus infection, but it sounds like your morning was worse than mine.

A fine day here in Brooklyn.
Didn’t have a job today, so I went to bed loving the idea that I could sleep in this morning. Woke up at 5:45am and couldn’t get back to sleep.
While having my first cup of coffe, I opened the shutters and looked out the front window to discover that one of my trash cans had been stolen. grrrrrrr.
(This is after having our paper recycling can torched two weeks ago.) methinks we have young vandals on the loose.
I felt like an ass filing a report at the precinct, but the cops said it’d be better to have a previous report when I catch the little shits.
Spent the afternoon getting and setting up a little tiny camera that takes a shot every few seconds.
VANDALS BE WARNED!
Hope the Ibuprofin worked.
And If I may be so bold, a great place to eat in Oakland is in Berkely.
Jenny, I feel for you. I’ve been there – to say it’s no fun is to understate it. Once I had a sinus infection and an ear infection at the same time, which hit me in Tucson the day I had to fly back home to L.A. Yeah. That sucked.
I hope you’re feeling better, John!

Hasn’t been much of a day up in the frozen north, even if John is now in the same timezone as me.
Fridays almost always equal headaches these days. Is ibuprofen addictive? Hope not.
Hope it gets better although remembering Oakland as I do . . .
john, do you mean oakland california? if so, do you want to come to a battlestar galactica premier party with me in san francisco tonight? if so, email me.
Humph.
Chang spent 3 months planning a nice SURPRISE getaway for he and Mrs. Chang at a 5 star hotel in Boston without the kid. It’s our 10th Wedding Annversary, y’see.
Now Mrs. Chang is down with a sore throat and due to some financial miscalculations (Chang bought the Mrs. a new iPod cuz he stole her other one) we’re a wee bnit short of cash.
No worries, though. She’s going away for the weekend even if she has the FLU!
Wait–Oakland, California? What the heck are you doing out here? We just packed the nice weather up for the season and are now beginning our Chilly Rain program, which will continue off and on through May.
Whoops, that was me. And what claire said–lots of us readers are locals who would be happy to show you around, and most of us aren’t crazed axe murderers.

After an 8+ hour trans-Atlantic flight, the 10-mile trip home from the airport took over 3 more hours as I was both pulled over by the police and later rear-ended. So, yeah, I’m doing just peachy.
Gainfully employed, starting Tuesday.
Drat. There’s a Vietnamese restaurant downtown you’d’ve liked! (Oakland has just about every Asian cuisine except Uzbek. Maybe.)
We do have ibuprofen and caffeine.
Mmmmm, caffeine.

D: Are you referring to Le Cheval? Le Cheval* is Teh Yum. I like their carrot chowder soup.
*French-Vietnamese. :)
Found any there there yet? I’m told it’s hard to come by in Oakland.
I’ve had a great day! Took it off from work without batting an eye.
Better than yesterday, when I, disgruntled, decided to look at job postings on the internet to cheer myself up only to discover a job posting from my own (small) company that 1) reorganizes me and several coworkers to report to a newly created position that 2) they apparently didn’t think I can do since 3) they didn’t offer to me before publicly posting it on the Internet or 4) even tell me or my coworkers about it! Yep. Did I mention I’ve been advocating just such a thing for the last five years? Did I mention I work in the COMMUNICATIONS department?
So. Four day weekend coming right up. So there.

If it’s Oakland, California, you’ve arrived at a good time. Earlier this week *water* was falling from the *sky.* If you’re Californian, you’ll understand why this just feels wrong. If in the Bay Area, check out laughingsquid dot com – their squidlist is a useful calendar for the weird fun events that don’t necessarily show up in the newspapers.
For example, the Burning Man Decompression party Sunday will be shiny. It’s in Potrero (licktown to you Altered Carbon fans) neighborhood about a mile south of the ballpark = not far away from fleetweek and the airshow.
Swamped by college apps and paperwork.
Heyyy, I’ll take your headache for a 500-word essay.
Tax-free and no shipping, just for you.
Have we a deal? :D
or, if you can only do a short escape or evening event, the new digital planetarium at Chabot is stunning (nice views of the bay and SF too). It just opened a few months ago. Imagine what you could get if you ran Google Earth on an Imax screen, if the program also included, say, Mars, Hubble pics, and the locations of all known stars and galaxies. (Open source data on the latter, btw.)
One thing the technicians running it taught- if you’re in our galaxy, lost, and need to find the Earth… draw a line from the Pleiades to the Hyades, then keep going another 150 light years. The solar system is around there.
Was in the city today with family to get our passports for a trip coming up. Spent a little time at the touristy Pier 39 and was surprised to see the Blue Angels performing their pre-game for this weekend’s fleet week. I guess the ships and air show begin tomorrow morning. Looks like the main show is just east of the golden gate, over the water. Was cool being in dowtown SF seeing F18s buzzing the skies!

Went to bed upset last night because some punk threatened me online. Couldn’t sleep. Got up a little after 5 a.m. to go for a walk and decided to act out by stealing a trash can. Laughed my ass off thinking how this schmuck is going to have to make a police report and, if I was really lucky, freak out and start installing electronic surveillance. There’s got to be a word for the feeling it gave me.

Is there such a thing as “Re-Pimpage”?
If you’re not following The Wreck of the Mary Byrd, you should be.

Doing fine. Just saw the IgNobel prize awards yesterday. Taking a 4 day weekend.
Also, I have coffee from the best roastery in NYC. My own blend. Half French Roast Peurto Rican, half French Roast Etheopian.
Remind me to take you to the coffee shop if you ever get to NYC.
