“The Android’s Dream” Review in Booklist

I’ve seen it. It’s very nice. I don’t think I can quote the whole thing yet, but here’s the first line:

Scalzi’s third ingenious novel in less than two years speeds his transition from rising star to major player in the sf community.

Somebody better get down here with a whole box of pins, because my head’s getting pretty damn big.

Seriously, though, the reviews for Android are making me happy, not necessarily because they’re good so far (although I’m glad for that), but because the book is different from the “Old Man” books, and I was wondering (re: worrying) whether folks would want to see something from me other than that particular universe. So far the answer seems to be yes. Excellent.

  1. “Ingenious” isn’t that better than genus? Like infamous is better than famous and inflammable is a bigger boom than flammable?

(pin to the side, pop!) :)

  3. No, no. I kind of like the idea of naming a genus after John. Of course, Krissy would have to buy some major sandbags to tie around his waist so that he wouldn’t float away every time he left the house. Those little ones can only hold down so much, y’know…

  5. Android’s Dream was what made me go back and read Old Man’s War and Ghost Brigades. It really reminded me that really good sci-fi is still out there.

  6. AWESOME!!!

I ordered a copy at my local bookshoppe. Can’t wait to read it.

I am proud to be a fan. Even prouder to be a stalker.

  8. John:

Congrats, that’s some damn fine ink.

I must confess, I’m not a SF fan, but may turn on and tune in, especially since finding Bacon Cat and the whatever.

Keep up the good work and enjoy your ‘playa’ status.

Speaking of ‘playas’ a friend/neighbor who is considered a ‘top 5’ seller of all time (mass market)just donated 20 Million to a university.

May we all reach those lofty perches, and one day provide a cat and some bacon to every household.

  9. Wow, congratulations!

Over the years I have found that one of the unexpected blessings of having a spouse is that they are very good at deflating an expanded ego.

    Yup. Very good indeed.

  10. Congrats John,
can’t say I like SF all that much anymore either, burned out of it a long time ago, but your writing on this blog is damn good, and it’s quite a bit of time before YNFAWYTYL2aCS:SoW (yeah-yeah, I know, but I wasn’t going to type all that) is released, so I’ll be picking up one of your fiction books and giving it a try.

What the heck, enjoy your praise; you earned it.
