Androids in the Wild

We have our first spotting of The Android’s Dream in the real world: Whatever reader Jeff Hentosz sends along this photo of TAD on his desk (along with his name plate, a Silent Bob figurine, and the US Constitution — yay!). Jeff reports that he got it at the Barnes & Noble at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, which had six copies (now clearly down to five). So if you’re in the Columbus Ohio area and you can’t wait for Halloween (the official release date, don’t you know), then now you know where to go. Remember also that the Easton Town Center B&N is where I’ll be doing a signing/reading/interpretive dance on November 9th, at 7pm.

Thanks, Jeff! Anyone else who spots TAD in the wild prior to the official release is likewise invited to send along a photo. Because I’m hungry for reassurance, you see.

  1. May I add, as a testimonial, that I saw a “workshop” performance of Scalzi’s interpretive dance in Marion. OMG! The Prometheus in Agony/Phoenix Rising section is nothing short of breathtaking.

  3. Apparently that particular store has more on the way because of my appearance. So the reordering’s already been taken care of.

  4. Will B&N in Columbus give a discount on your book that night? Yes, we’ll buy a new one, but I have a question.

Although puppies may die, is it [gauche? inappropriate? embarrassing unto death] to bring a library copy of your book for your signature? The librarians would get a big kick out it – except for the ones who might charge us for damages?

(My husband is a librarian; this will amuse him.)

  6. Steve: Yes, though not for the reasons you’d think. Our distended brains tend to shade our eyes from the sun. But, then, our silver unitards cause of a hell of a glare on sunny days, so we’re back to where we started. It’s always something.
Also, we have no dates in the future. Our national motto is now “We’ll get to it when we get to it.” It’s heaven.

  7. Cassie, I’m not going to be asking where the books come from when I sign them. However, I would make sure the librarians don’t mind.

I don’t know what discount if any B&N will be offering on the book.

  8. Interpretive dance of a chapter long fart joke? Gosh I’m sorry I won’t be able to make it.

  9. all of this talk about TAD and fart ballets has been intriguing. as a reader of the blog and occasional science fiction reader (dune, mars trilogy, asimov, etc.) – what book do you recommend for a person’s first scalzi experience?

  10. AB, I would recommend Old Man’s War: http://www.amazon.com/Old-Mans-War-John-Scalzi/dp/0765315246/sr=1-2/qid=1161369102/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-1661942-7877701?ie=UTF8&s=books

And you might as well buy the sequel, The Ghost Brigades while you are at it, will be better for you if you can dive right from one into the other: http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Brigades-Sci-Essential-Books/dp/0765315025/sr=1-1/qid=1161369102/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-1661942-7877701?ie=UTF8&s=books

And while you’re waiting on those to arrive, you can read Agent to the Stars, online, for free: http://scalzi.com/agent/

  11. I managed to free a copy of TAD from it’s imprisonment in the book store just yesterday. I actually ordered TAD and a CD at the same time, both to be released next Tuesday. They got both of them in yesterday, and sold me TAD, but won’t sell me the CD until Tuesday. Go figure. I guess Borders here in Kansas likes The Android’s Dream better than The Bourbon Legend.

The chapter long fart joke would be worth the wait until Tuesday, but that’s really easy to say since I got to read it last night.

TAD now graces my desk (image here, since I didn’t know about posting images directly into the comment thread), quietly whispering ‘Read me! Read me now! You don’t really need to do that paperwork right now…
