Unveiling My New Signature Quote

After a run of five good years, the current quote in my e-mail signature file (“You are a man too lazy to fail” — Kristine Blauser Scalzi) is being honorably retired, to make way for the new signature quote, uttered last night, to me, by my daughter, Athena:

“Your insolent mind will never rule this world!”

Simple, strong, classic. And it makes a statement! Honestly, what more could you want out of a signature quote.

  1. Well, at least you haven’t been banned from ruling ANY worlds, just not this one. Allows for career advancement, I’d say.

  2. Athena always continues to amaze me. I think I was 16 by the time I used “insolent” to describe someone else. Your kid is a treasure, John. Santa should be pleased.

  3. Yes, what was the setup? Inquiring minds want to know…. Unless it would embarrass her.

Nahh…. we need to know. My daughter’s comments in response to situations are still making me laugh. (she’s 28 now). I’m waiting for grandkids I can tell them to.

  4. I imagine round about 2010, we’ll be seeing a new e-mail signature file of:

“But Dad, Judy’s parents let her go out on dates!”

  5. I dunno, I’m kind’ve fond of:

“John Scalzi is everything that is wrong with science fiction today.”

  6. One of the ones that has been circulating around my office lately that I chuckle at everytime..

‘I am going to come at you like a Spider Monkey’

  7. I often use Athena’s “My Spleen! My Liver! If I hadn’t hated Pluto this wouldn’t be happening!”

  8. I’ve been using the following, but I think it is a little too much of a downer for a business setting:

When you wish upon a falling star, your dreams can come true.
Unless it’s really a meteorite hurtling to the Earth which will destroy all life.
Then you’re pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it’s death by meteor.

    Can anyone recommend something better?

  9. Tripp: maybe what you need is something similar to that in content (i.e., from the Demotivator site) but different in style, so that people who just scan it or only read the first few words miss the actual meaning. With that in mind:
-Success is a journey, not a destination. So stop running.
-Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.
-When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there’s no end to what you can’t do.
-Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, you will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
-There comes a time when every team must learn to make individual sacrifices.
-Let’s agree to respect each other’s views, no matter how wrong yours may be.
-That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.
-You can do anything you set your mind to when you have vision, determination, and an endless supply of expendable labor.
    Good luck!

  10. Just found this site and wanted to offer up my signature of the last several years:

Outside of a dog a book is a man’s best friend,
inside a dog it is too dark to read.
