My weekend = perfectly cromulent, thank you. Lots of gorging on my backlog of magazines, lots of time with my wife & kids, plus the whole family visited the new mega-Ikea in the suburb up the road. And unlike yesterday, which was cold and **wet** here, today is sunny & beautiful. On the agenda for today: drop off the recycling, gorge on football (a special treat for me, since I never do this before the playoffs), and fold in a few dozen pages of handwritten notes to the current draft of the novel I’m writing.
Good weekend so far, cleaned and organized my office, prioritized my reading lists and sorted the last six months of bills and invoices – taxes amy g et done before april 16th this year. Also started Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk and forgot how jarring but oddly engrossingh hia style is. Also started rewatching Andromeda on DVD -making me mourn for Firefly all over again.
Not too bad. Club meeting yesterday; very pleasant. It’s drizzling/raining today, but I’ve dealt with worse weather.
And of course, late tonight it’s CSI: MIAMI WEEKENDS.
On the one hand, it was awesome. I read “Agent to the Stars” and loved it, finished reading another science nonfiction that needs to get returned to its owner, and wrote a couple bloggy book reviews about both.
On the other hand, it was abysmal. I worked 16 hours on Friday to meet a deadline I only knew about the first hour into it, and at the end of all the mindless data crunching I noticed that the images I’d made did not show what I thought they were going to show, so it was a lot of wasted effort. Plus my boss will now look at me funny on Monday, because of how strongly I was recommending that he use that particular dataset.
Then I went to my second job, which is cashier at a takeout place, and gave four people the wrong bags of food. Two of them had to wait extra-long to get their correct food orders, and the other two got all the way home before they noticed and came back to return them. The manager was not very pleased with me…
Now it’s Sunday and I’m hoping not to screw up at the takeout again. The rest of it I’ll probably just be sleeping. ;)
Saturday: Took lil’ Chang to a birthday party, went home and watched some TV and slept instead of writing, also watched some of the MOOG documentary. Taught a class in the afternoon. Went to dinner that night with Mrs. Chang to Ribolita, one of the best Italian restaurants ever. Did I say gnocchi with prosciutto, green beans and asiago? Yeah, I thought so.
Sunday: Taught a packed class and made people sweat like figs. Then did a lil’ teacher training and got my butt womped by said teacher in trraining. Came home ate some lunch, leftover mascarpone cheesecake with pomegranate seeds and am now all caught up on email. Now I will lie back on the couch and read the Times of New York sunday papers. Good day to you all.
W-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-wait a second. Frigging Safari didn’t know it was me. Sunnuvabitch. ALl cuz FireFox 2 makes the keyboard die. Why? Why? Answer me!!!
Downside: Broken glassware
Upside: Cool new glassware.
WOOT!
Good. Grilled a fine butterflied leg of lamb. Made a big pot of minestrone. Took down the Christmas tree!
Just got home myself. Saw you being interviewed, and then cutting a mean rug in the dance :) Sorry I didn’t say hi — the social niceties of introducing one’s self as a longtime lurker on the dance floor eluded me. Nice to almost-meet you, though! Perhaps another time. :)
Perfect weekend. I acquired a Wii, and the Colts won. Perfect.
I had a pretty great weekend, since I not only attended the con but managed to read The Android’s Dream entirely in airports and on planes.
My favorite thing about the book (apart from the characters and the story and the sheep on the cover, all of which were undeniably cool) was that you gave DC a Gray Line. Having spent the second-to-last leg of my ride home from the con staring at the Metro map across the car from me, I choose to believe that the Gray Line is a circle line parallel to the Beltway (which is of course gray on the map). I love reading SF that pictures the future being different and better from the present…
Lots of time with the family, met a business associate for drinks and conversation, then more family time today and managed to squeeze in some gaming.
So… yeah. The way a weekend should go.
Very nice. Applied for my passport yesterday, for my April trip to Prague and Budapest, which I’m very excited about. Finished Red Mars and am about one-third through Green Mars. Went to the gym, like a Very Good Girl, and did more than 60 minutes on the elliptic after my workout (brag, brag).
And watched The Games, feel bad for the Saints; and oh my god what a comeback, Colts. Looking forward to the Super Bowl. Might become a serious football fan again. Oh, dear.
Spent some time on your blog reading your tips for teenager writers. Very informative and filled with knee-slapping entertainment. What could be better?
They cut down the tree which hid my bedroom window, so I bought blinds. But they’re less than half inch (really only a few millimeters) too wide to fit in the braces. And I don’t have an appropriate saw … Or should I get sandpaper?
Oh and DA BEARS
And how was your weekend?
umm, drunken lonely and cold?
Peter,
I’m an hoosier/chicago suburbanite.
I’m torn.
I found your blog through links included in a post from actor Wil Wheaton’s blog. They’re quite informative and just as entertaining to read. My Saturday consisted of rock climbing as well as attending a local micro-brewery to watch a friend’s band perform. Sunday was mostly taken up by recovery from rock climbing and eagerly awaiting and eventually enjoying the second half of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi.
Speaking of, is there perhaps a previous post I haven’t come across yet where you might have any tips on writing screenplays or for already established series’? I appreciate writers, musicians, etc. who maintain blogs for what appears to be, simply the love of their craft. I look forward to reading more.
…and eventually enjoying the second half of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi.
*blink*
(pause)
AAAUUUGGGHHH!!!!!
*self-flagellates*
Abysmal I tell you! :(
The Burning Crusade came out last Tuesday and my boyfriend was so nice that he bought me the special edition (I was flabbergasted! I didn’t expect him to do that at all!).
I had a niiice weekend *grins*
Why thanks for asking…
1) I did laundry.
2) Finished reading “A Scanner Darkly”.
3) Drank some VERY good Scotch.
4) Ate out at the local Gasthaus.
5) Watch NFL playoffs with German commentary.
6) Made beautiful Marshall w/Gibson Les Paul noise.
7) Spoke to wife and daughter in the States (of which I do everyday so does that count?).
Crap, that was a weekend? I must’ve missed it.
Found out I’m not going to prison. That was good. Although that might have been Friday; does that count?
(Please realize that military justice is different from civilian justice. Some things that would simply get you fired in the civilian world will get you incarcerated in the military.)
I read a lot. I wrote some. I had big meals with family. And oh yeah, BEARS WIN! Plus, the Colts won too, they’re my second fave team. Midwest Superbowl, oh yeah. Only, it’s in Miami…
My weekend was good, thanks!
..it’s still morning. Sorry that’s all I got.
Friday, our transmission went wonky. Today, I discover I need to replace said transmission, to the tune of $2500+/-.
Gah.
