Scottsdale Says Hi

scottsdalesayshi.jpg

Well, that was fun. The Poisoned Pen bookstore paired my appearance with mystery writer Jane Cleland, so folks who came out tonight got a double bill — sort of like Grindhouse, without the mortifying audience apathy. It was an excellent crowd, and I ended up putting faces to all sorts of names both here on the Whatever and over on By the Way. Which is nice, you know? Suddenly people aren’t just pixelated letters on a screen anymore. Earlier in the day I was over at the Dragon Page, recording an interview which will be up in a couple of weeks. Busy, busy, in the Phoenix area.

Now I’m back here at the hotel, just had a ridiculously expensive (but tasty) room service burger, and now going to fall into a coma-like state for several hours, and then head to San Diego, which is one of my favorite towns. I’ll be at Mysterious Galaxy at 7pm, whereupon I will commence my monkey dance (note: this is metaphorical. I may not, in fact, dance like a monkey. Although I might).

Have a good night, everyone.

  1. Hey John, it was great to meet you and hear you speak. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to do so again!

  2. I’m glad you enjoyed my hometown…I wanted to come meet you, but silly grad school got in the way. Hi from Tucson anyway!

  3. Counting the days until you arrive in Minneapolis…4. Hurry up, John!

  4. It was nice to get to meat the person behind the personality.I wrote up a short blog about it.

  5. Nice meeting you, John! Thanks to the appearance, I finally got in touch with the Phoenix SFF fan base. (And got to hear some fascinating behind-the-scenes con insight–and gossip, of course.)

I was serious about the ACS student affiliate membership model for SFWA. And, since this is likely a time you may not be able to read all your comment threads as closely as usual, I’ll even go so far as to offer my time as a volunteer to assist with whatever outreach to unpubbed authors you, should you get elected, are willing and able to implement. Though I was very involved as an ACS Student Affiliate, I’m unpublished in SFF at the moment and not sure how valuable my assistance to SFWA would be.

  6. Thanks for coming. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay long enough to say hello and get my books signed, but I did buy a copy. I was a bit slow getting my hand up in the photo. (I’m in blue against the end of the book shelf in the center.)

  7. Hey John, it was nice to meet you! I get shy in crowds like that for some reason – I don’t quite understand it. I met another blogger once and was as awkward as an adolescent – and they aren’t even famous!

What I meant to say was that our book club all enjoyed Android’s Dream, fart jokes and all. No dissenting views, which was somewhat surprising.

  9. Yes. Nothing says I am ready for a/the monkey dance like a well porportioned, suitably seasoned, banquet burger and fries? (go with the salad?). The life of a Road Warrior.

  10. Oh man, I wish I hadn’t missed you! You were just a few miles from me. Oh, well, next time. Have a great tour!
