Oh, wait.

Well, close enough.

For those of you who care, here’s a thread for you to care in.

  1. Having never been an athletic supporter, it took me a minute to figure out what was wrong with that headline….

  2. It started out boring as hell, but the last five minutes were definitely worth watching.

Now, I’m just waiting for House to start.

  3. Go Giants. I was afraid they were going to come apart late in the 4th quarter, as is their wont. fortunately, despite some shaky moments at the end of the 2nd quarter, they held it together and didn’t play stupid in the 4th.

It’s nice to see the Lesser Manning achieve his Superbowl ring sooner than his brother after all the naysaying about him. Now daddy will love him best.

  4. Was a great game, watched by beer swilling husbands (me included) as wives talked amongst themselves and children ran wild.

  5. I’m actually not sad. We were definitely outplayed. Congrats to all you Giants fans.

(even though I still secretly despise any teams from NY)

  6. First SB game I have watched in I don’t know how long. Lets face it they haven’t had a good game in the Super Bowl in decades. This one was actually a good game. I was torn about who I wanted to win. I didn’t want to see the Pats go undefeated but I would also like to see Jr Seau get a ring. No perfect season, no ring for Jr. Seau and no jack booted gentlemen kicking in my door with a one way trip to Gitmo for me. Whew.

  7. Still an hour of Puppy Bowl IV left to go! The Jack Russell has been murder on the plushy ref toy tonight.

  8. I am so not a football fan, but I have to say I enjoyed watching today. That and the fact that my mother-in-law kept bringing a steady stream of food into the living room made for a very enjoyable evening. I am won over by pigs in blankets. =)

  9. “It’s nice to see the Lesser Manning achieve his Superbowl ring sooner than his brother after all the naysaying about him”

Uh, you are aware that Peyton won a Super Bowl last year?

  10. I had little hope for the Giants, but by the last couple minutes I absolutely believed they could pull it off. And it was great watching it in a loud living room with people I haven’t seen in a while.

  11. David@14: Yes, but Eli achieved his in fewer seasons in the NFL, which is what I was referring to.

  12. Twas quite a good game. My wife was pulling for the Pats, and it looked like they had it sewn up. 2m40s and a must-touchdown? Sure, Joe Montana could do (and did) that without breaking a sweat. But Eli Manning? And only 1 time-out?

Yeah, the Giants earned that one completely. Well done.

  13. I was under the impression that we Hooisers were required by law to root for a Manning in the Superbowl. Peyton being unavailable, Eli was drafted. (I caught the last 10 minutes….since my DVR crapped out and recorded the game, not House…and at one point the stadium rocked with the chant “E-li! E-li! E-li!” Intense!)

  14. Puppy bowl IV made me hungry.

When the dogs tired out, was that when they were eaten?

  15. Whenever I hear “The Giants win the pennant!” I think about the episode of MASH when Charles has bet all his money on the Dodgers.

  16. Yeah, all poor Tom Brady has to console himself with is three Superbowl rings and a gorgeous Brazilian supermodel. However will he cope with the loss?

  17. I thought the NFL canceled the Superbowl after the Cowboys decided they’d accomplished enough for the season.

I mean, if the ‘Boys aren’t in it, why bother? Does it really matter?

  18. i only saw some of the end as i was waiting to start taping the new episode of “house” to watch tonight. i had not idea 10 minutes of a game could drag on for 45 minutes.

at around 10:45 i went down to the garage to have a cigarette and heard people screaming. yes, people actually screaming outside. i live in jersey so i guess people around here take a giants win seriously.

    Bacon Flavored Mints
Each one of these mints tastes like a delicious slice of crispy bacon with just a hint of mint flavor to give it that extra punch! It may sound weird but once you taste it, you’ll see that mint and bacon is a match made in Heaven. Each 2-1/4″ x 2″ x 1/2″ (5.7 cm x 5.1 cm x 1.3 cm) tin contains one hundred mints. Thirty-six shrink wrapped tins in each illustrated display box. UPC

  20. I have a bad habit of rooting for the underdog which leads to disappointment but when it doesn’t – WOW!

It was actually a good game with the best part at the end.

Oh, and the National Anthem at the start was great! That woman can sing.

But I have one big concern – I don’t like the Manning dynasty – it is unamerican. That’s why my vote will go to their opponents.

  21. Well considering that the Giants actually PLAY in Jersey, one can understand why New Jersey might think the Giants were actually their team. (grin)

Decades? All three of the Pats SB wins were by three points. The Panthers/Patriots game would still be talked about today if it weren’t for nipplegate. I have to respectfully disagree. Some great SB games have been played in the last 10 years.

I’m happy for Eli. For once, he can spend the off-season not having to hear how much he sucks in the NY media. BTW – The 32 yard miracle heave from Eli to Tyree – Best SB play I’ve ever seen, and I’m an old fart.

  23. I’m also a Pats fan by geographical default, but I have to admit (here only, not outloud in Boston) that a Giants win is more interesting. It’s the man bites dog story.

Plus, as the clock ticked down I started thiniking: A Giants win means George R.R. Martin is happy. A happy GRRM is a writing GRRM. A writing GRRM means “Dance With Dragons” comes sooner. Go Giants! (OK, that’s too geeky even for me.)

  24. The guy in the car should have hit Richard Simmons.
Alice Cooper getting injured could also have been fun to watch
I wanted to see some blood on Timberlake
I was cheering that Terminator robot on
Darn these ads are getting violent
    ROUS’s? I don’t believe in them.

  25. While I would love to see the smirk wiped off the face of an undeserving Dolphins franchise (the ’72 players, coaches, etc deserve to be proud, but why does one of the worst teams in the league deserve to have some kind of locker room champaign hootenanny when the last undefeated team chalks up an L every year?), between the 5-ton chip on Bill Belichick’s shoulder and guys like Randy Moss, I didn’t want it to be the Patriots.

  26. Sorry, I live in Yorkshire – what’s the fuss about?

Is it something to do with ten-pin bowling?

  27. I’m just laughing at Dane’s first comment about not being “an athletic supporter.”

  28. The only reason I was pulling for the Patriots was to shut those damn ’72 Dolphins up once and for all. So, of course, they’ve been front and center in all the coverage since last night…

    ARRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

  29. Ugh!!

I know, the Giants were great, and the Pats offensive line must have stayed in Boston. Maybe they missed the plane a couple of weeks ago?

Congratulations Giants fans. Your guys earned it.

Now, how long is the pain going to last, and who will finally stop pouring salt into the wounds?

  30. Never forget that football is a physical game, and the G Unit was simply much more physical. I love my Pats, but the Giants deserved the Dub.

  31. Since, as has been previously pointed out, there were no Seahawks in this game, we were rather detached.

Still, I’m glad the Giants won – I just couldn’t bring myself to root for a team with a long record of cheating.

  32. A friend (She is the football devotee, thankyouverymuch) collected me in time to catch the start of the second quarter[1], at which point I was mildly surprised to see the Giants scoreful and the Patriots otherwise. You must understand that the only SB-related opinion/wish/prayer I had held was: “Please {deity}, from asinine stunts which might derail Tom Petty’s gig, spare us. Amen.” That was, IMHO, the most important aspect of the entire circus.

TP&THs rocked[2] as if they had invented the stuff. That was what I’d really hoped to see, and the rest[4] was just a game…

Soon, players returned for the second half. And then the strange thing happened: they made me care about the game. [5]

In retrospect, it was IMHO one of the cleanest, best-fought matchups between the two best teams of the year, that I can recall watching.[3] If there were more superb owls of similar quality, I might be at risk of viewer recidivism this time next year.

    (1) I’m still trying to find replays of both the National Anthem being sung, as well as the reading of the D.o.I. prior to the game. Both were described as showing more class than I can remember seeing in any five SBs…

    (2) First person to use the word “still” earns a baleful glance from this old fart. >_<

    (3) as opposed to another boxcar-scoring, ugly-as-sin bitchfest which showed the least attractive properties of any participant(s).

    (4) The song “I Won’t Back Down” seemed appropriate at halftime, and more so as the game progressed.

    (5) As opposed to the hype, the commercials, or the other ancillary BS which has increasingly competed for attention against the very game around which it accreted.
