I feel the urge to wear bell-bottoms…
They had the internet in the 70s?
Huh.
I feel the urge to make sand candles.
Lanna:
Actually, they did.
Genius. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-fternoon delight.
I’m having macrame flashbacks. Plant holders… wall hangings…
As long as there’s no muskrat lovin’ going on behind that tree, I’m ok with the change of decor.
Mmmm. The 70’s. Kind of like Pringles. Just a little bit will do you for another year . . . .
I’m not sure what makes me more uncomfortable, the video or the background.
I’m not dead yet.
Needs Muppet frogs swaying in time in the foreground. Otherwise, this patron says “Far out!”
On my To-Do List for tomorrow: I believe I saw Earth Shoes for sale at the Whole Foods!
You young whippersnappers with yer bell-bottoms and commie-pinko John Denver. Now Mitch Miller; There’s some real music.
See what happens when you have server issues? You start backing up things and and exporting stuff and next thing you know you’re changing backgrounds and posting John Denver videos.
He always reminded me of those creepy Sleestaks… but despite that where’s “Calypso” with Jaqcues Cousteau? Ah – here it is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=FEETL5KcJ10
Anyone want to start a pool as to how long this theme will last?
I’m giving it a week. Just like most of everything in the 70’s, things would be really bitchin for like 48 hours, then suddenly suck.
Was John Denver ever a member of SFWA? There was a guy who could really fart rainbows.
I used to like this song. Try as I might, I can’t recall why.
Eeep.
Ooooh, Cooper font..
AHhhhhh!!! Make it stop!
That man will always be classy. :: swoon :: Also did you know he died flying an experimental plane??? AWESOME!
Is it just me or does John Denver kind of look like Kermit the Frog?
WSG, I think the more important question is, does Kermit the Frog look like John Denver?
Hey, I’m not embarassed to say that I enjoyed it. Cool guy, nice music, died too young, in an ultra-light because he did what he wanted to do.
That song is probably the main reason my mom packed up us kids and moved us to Colorado.
John Denver was an icon to all of us nerdy Ecologists. No day was complete after collecting samples/data without a prof getting out the guitar and playing a Denver tune.
The Seventies: When even the crappy music was better, but the best fashion was horrible.*
Funny thing about the seventies. All those cars you see at classic car shows now built after 1958 I remember as people’s junkers during the Ford Administration.
*This from a guy who thinks fashion is a colossal waste of time, but at least doesn’t dress like it. Usually.
*kindly slaps Swierczynski on one cheek*
Snap out of it!
Aaw, now John Denver was my first crush…when I was, like, 4.
And to also, he was the first music my kids ever listened to, after I brought them home from the hospital and had recently moved and hadn’t unpacked hardly anything yet, I found a JD cd in some of my mom’s stuff and threw it on in a vain attempt to get my twins to sleep. “Annie’s song” is what did it. I’ll always love JD for that!
“Friends around the campfire and everybody’s high…”
Yeah, that might explain some of the 70’s.
I met John Denver once, he was a funny, genuinely nice guy – who smelled of natural hemp products.
I love John Denver. And I love this song. But unfortunately, he reminds me of that Cousin Oliver kid they brought on the Brady Bunch show when ratings were tanking. That kid drove me nuts, so I have to get past that to enjoy me some Rocky Mtn. High.
Wait, maybe if I WAS high, all would be right with my world.
John Denver and the Muppets. That was a winning combo. I still tear up listening to “When the River Meets the Sea.”
But, wow. That shirt.
Still have a weak spot for John Denver…
…and thanks to the linked videos, just learned that he wrote Leaving on a Jet Plane (had always thought it was Peter, Paul & Mary).
Whatever: Stuffed full of things you didn’t know.
Nice shade of green, BTW. Goes well with the lappy’s desktop.
A little late, but I had to say I love John Denver, and I thank you for bringing him up. One of the things on my consumerist list is replacting that Greatest Hits CD I lost. You should hear me belt out Annie’s Song in my car at full volume… or… no…. you really shouldn’t! :)
Thanks!
You’re right…k.d. lang has an awesome voice…thanks for sharing this vid of her early work…
Anything that prompts a John Denver video is okay by me.
