BFS Recommended

Well, this is cool, and unexpected: The British Fantasy Society has placed Whatever on its recommendation list for one of its annual awards, in the “Best Non-Fiction” category. Neat! It’s nice to be appreciated. I have absolutely no idea whether I’ll win, but I’m happy enough to have Whatever recommended. Between this and the fan writer Hugo nomination this year, it’s an indication that what I write here is part of the larger fan conversation about the genre, and that’s a good feeling. So thanks.
Your welcome. Where’s my Zoe’s Tale ARC for my troubles?
I’ll get right on that, Chris.
Way to go!!! Well deserved. I hope you win.
Congratulations!
Some people will no doubt freak out, but as with your nomination for the Best Fan Writer Hugo, I think it’s groovy.
Non-fiction? Non?
Good Gravy, Man, you mean the shit that goes on around here is real?
Congratulations and etcetera and etcetera and so on and so forth.
Do blogs (and especially the comment sections thereof) really count as “non-fiction”?
Only half kidding…
Supernonfictitiousangloscalzidocious! *
JJ @7: Perhaps the BFS wisely opted to bypass the comments portion of Whatever in their evaluation. (I’d feel worse if my own nerdgassing caused John to miss a slot on the awards list.)

(*) Pronounced either “Congratulations, John!” or “Yowza, swEE-E-E-et!” in these parts.
Congrats! I bet this makes you an honorary British citizen, too. Has the accent kicked in yet?
You’re a major source for me for new/established writers and their work. I like your work, so the chance that I will like the people you recommend is higher than generic reviewers.
Ever think of editing an anthology?
Jeff:
Yes.
Although there’s certainly a healthy dose of tomfoolery around here (is using that word ironic in this situation?), I like what you said:
>>>it’s an indication that what I write here is part of the larger fan conversation about the genre, and that’s a good feeling.<<<
That’s the motivation behind my own blog, and what good author blogs should be in general.
Now, there’s already too much ass-kissing in blog comment sections (see: literary agent blogs), so don’t expect me to get all mushy.
But…well…(cheers).

See, now I was thinking it’s an indication that you’re finally stepping up the writing, from pro to fan. ;)
