Placeholder Cat Secures the Floor With His Body

Let’s see that floor get away now. Yes, when you suffer from the heartbreak of flyaway floors, it’s good to have a valiant phalanx of cats to keep them firmly pinned down. Zeus here is in particular a master of the craft; I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cat who more avidly secures a floor than he. It’s a calling, really.

Zeus is a placeholder cat in another way, and that is that he’s keeping you amused whilst I hammer out details regarding moving Whatever to a new host. I should have more information on that for you later today. Until then: look, kitty.

  1. Zeus is such a cute cat.

    Risking the wrath of Chang:
    Ghlaghghee = cute
    Zeus = more cute

  2. I have a cat like that. He is a master loafer. I think he’s the reincarnation of Walt Whitman.

  3. Seriously, someone needs to coin a phrase for the practice of distracting one’s blog readers with cute kitty photos.

    If I had a cat (I don’t, but it’s not for lack of wanting one) I’d blatantly use it for this purpose.

  4. Chang not chang’s going to be angry! Wrong cat! I, however, applaud the cat variety.

    @#4 Tempyra- Catblogstraction? Catstraction? Distrakittyblog? Nah, doesn’t really flow.

  5. “Risking the wrath of Chang” sounds like a really bad martial arts movie. Probably, so will his outrage at this picture.

  6. cat·′strac·tion n. 1. The use of feline images to distract weblog readers. 2. The characteristic grip of a feline upon an underlying surface (e.g. carpet) displayed when said cat is swimming sideways.

  7. Before reading the text I thought that, in this election year, it was only fair that the other Scalzi pets get equal time. Then I saw that Zeus was only a placeholder, and I wept for Lopsided Cat and Kodi: two oppressed animals with no one to speak for them.

  8. Is it just me or is the RSS feed busted? There’s no link for it, at least that I could find, so I’m not sure which feed I should even be looking at. Maybe that will get fixed at the new site…

  9. O Great Scalzi, what a superb picture of TempCat Zeus. And congratulations on implementing the placeholder suggestion of the Executive Committee of The Official Ghlaghghee Fan Club.

    However, it seems the Whatever is still malfunctioning. There is quite a bit of tripe still present on the blog. You should correct this fault immediately: delete all posts not related to Her Glorious Shimmering Radiance, Mighty Lopsided Cat, and TempCat Zeus.

    PS – Silence, foolish, loutish and low-brow Whatever readers. Nobody of any import cares a whit about your “insightful” analyses or comments. All you do is clutter up an already cluttered with tripe blog.

  10. Cody @12,

    Don’t weep for Kodi. Join the Kodi Appreciation Society, instead. Dogs are inherently more fun than cats, and Kodi even more so since she shoot frickin’ laser beams from her mouth in defense of her family.

  11. “Placeholder cat”! So that’s what Poppy is doing, and I thought she was just slobbing out over the pipes under the hall floor!

    Many thanks for the insight into my cat’s (or should that be feline overlord’s) behaviour.

    Better get that hall floor checked……….

  12. Sir, your use of cat pictures with clever cat truths is equivalent to throwing bread to the mobs in the coliseum–please keep the bread coming :)

  13. O Loutish and Low-Brow Whatever Readers, the Executive Committee of The Official Ghlaghghee Fan Club recommends in the strongest possible terms that you leave immediately – for your own safety.

    A lunatic of the Anteater-Thing Appreciation Society has escaped from the asylum and is ranting and raving dangerously and incoherently.

    For your safety, leave. Also so that you do not gawk at the pathetic spectacle, leave. It is beneath you. (And that’s saying a lot for the average uncultured Whatever reader.)

  14. Silence, Adelheid@21. The Executive Committee regrets the harsh tone but necessity has driven us to it.

    We are providing a public service, and this is the response we get?

    The Executive Committee remembers fondly when the Whatever was filled with laudatory and reverential posts for Magnificent She and comments from the readership were insightful and sensitive.

    Even Scalzi was appreciative. However, this has seemingly changed as his success (that is, Her Success) has gotten to his head and he has forgotten how he got here.

    And his arrogance and insensitivity has attracted numerous like minds that have degraded discourse and distracted all from the single purpose of the Whatever, which is a vehicle that the deprived can use to view Her Glorious Shimmering Radiant Beauty.

  15. Cherish your kitties while they are healthy. My feline companion of 18 1/2 years had to be put to sleep at 5am this morning – she had chronic renal failure and went downhill rapidly last night.

    Believe me, ‘that day’ comes all too soon since those animals we make our friends have lifespans so much shorter than ours.
