The song is originally from Don Henley’s first solo album, I Can’t Stand Still.

I knew I remembered the line from somewhere, but it wasn’t coming to me, so I cheated and Googled the line yesterday.

For some reason, I always think (the also excellent) “A Month of Sundays” is on this album, but it’s actually on Building the Perfect Beast. ( … a CD-only track. Back when they released that, I didn’t have a CD player, so I had to shell out extra for the “Boys of Summer” single with “Sundays” on the B-side.)

I’m afraid that my rep as an underground music fan will suffer, but I really like Don Henley’s singles except for “Dirty Laundry” (too much overkill for a catchy pop tune methinks).

Haven’t heard Lilah and can’t ATM due to corporate firewalls but I will when I can

First time I heard this song was on a radio broadcast of a live concert. That version is more like the video here than the original recording. Both of the live versions seem five or six times as good as the album version. Basically my all time favorite Henley solo song.
