The Other Way to Make One of These is to Stave My Head In, and I Don’t Recommend That

How to make a Bloody Scalzi. Yes, it’s a drink, and fittingly of the non-alcoholic variety. I’ll have to try one of these myself.

  1. Well, the recipe site is blocked here, but I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s a better recipe than the non-recommended alternative!

  2. If there were a way to throw in Coke Zero then it would be a dangerous beverage for Scalzi. ;-)

Actually replace the Ginger Ale with Sprite Zero, and we’re there!

  3. Replace the ginger ale with Coke Zero and it will be the wrong color, but more appropriate over all.

  4. OK, I say this in light of the recent John-Doesn’t-Drink thread.

I’m going somewhere with this, trust me: A local theater company I volunteer with just recently did an over-the-top version of Titus Andronicus. And by over the top, I mean they did it as a dark comedy. Opening weekend, they had a local bar come in to serve drinks before the show and during intermission. In honor of the show, they created a signature drink: The Bloody Titus. It was a bloody Mary made with… wait for it… bacon flavored vodka.

Bringing it back to the current discussion, would it not be more apropos to have the Scalzi Drink be Coke Zero with Bacon Vodka?

  5. I propose, for those obsessed with the bacon thing, V-8 or tomato juice flavored with Bacon Salt.

  6. Isn’t there some kind of bartending purist’s rule against using “bloody” to refer to something that contains no tomato, that just “being red” isn’t really enough?

  7. Womyn2me @12: Yes – “Stave in his/her head.”
