Zeus the Cat Confronts the Existential Conundrum of a Weekend Away From the Internet

“It’s… it’s not possible, is it? An entire weekend away from Teh Interweebs?” Well, we’re about to find out, my fuzzy little friend. I have much to do that does not involve this mighty Series of Tubes™ we all know and love, and so am signing off until Monday. Do try to keep it together until I get back. In the meantime, consider this an open thread to chat amongst yourselves in. Remember to play nice with each other; I may be away for the weekend, but the Mallet of Loving Correction is here 24/7.

  1. O Great Scalzi, what an excellent picture of TempCat Zeus confronting the wonderful prospect of a weekend away from you.

We can only imagine the Joy of Our Most Gracious Perfect Shimmering Radiant Perfection, the Beauteous Ghlaghghee, when She learned of this happy occasion.

Or is this some sort of sick joke? Are you not actually going anywhere but simply staying off the computer?

While Magnificent She can easily withstand the immense strain of your company, the Executive Committee fears for both Mighty Lopsided Cat and TempCat Zeus. Do give Them a break.

  2. chang! I have not seen you on here for a while. Were you away from the intertubes too? Or did I just not see you?

  3. I don’t like it’s eyes, those are Raistlin like eyes.

I’m not as kind or forgiving as carramon, but I still want too pull your evil cat from the abyss.

  4. So the cat is away…. we the mice will have loads of fun!! hehe

SO… what is everyone else doing for the weekend?

  5. Mon and Dad are gone. Time to have a PARTY! Where’s the darn key to the catnip cupboard?!

  6. Received my copy of The God Engines a few weeks back. I plan to crack it open and delve into it this weekend. I have a feeling that the reviews I’ve read won’t quite do the book justice.

  7. Ah, the truth comes out that Scalzi’s cats are incapable of logging on to the internet by themselves. It may have something to do with the lack of opposable thumbs, or it maybe that they’re over their credit card limits. But more than likely it’s because they get all confused over the mouse.

    It’s a pointer, but it’s a mouse ::pounce::

  8. Making beef bourguignon for 7. Hoping to get the house tidied up first. Reading 2 books (to be named later after I visit the library) – cutting back from my usual 4.

  9. He’s a cat, so he’ll likely reset all of your passwords & set you up an account at Townhall.com

  10. I know that look. That’s the “will you get going already? I have things to do that I don’t want you to see” look.

Don’t be surprised if he records a new greeting on your answering machine. Mine did.

  11. Steve Buccheit – Opposable thumbs forsooth! My cat somehow manages to do searches, find hidden glitches and freeze my computer at least once a week. Its some kind of mystical walk across the keyboard thing, which you would assume would create garbage. Lily has developed a keen sense of ways to embarrass and annoy me. I have come back to my computer to find persons in various levels of undress and contorted position, I have found a very odd group of people who think horses are channeling the spirit world, and I think I may have accidentally answered a political poll advocating my least favorite candidate.
    She is good. Really good.

  12. anne@10 – mmmmm, beef bourguignon. Husband made that New Year’s day (we use the Julia Child/Jacque Pepin recipe). Be sure to make toast points or have some nice crusty bread to sop up all the tasty goodness :)

  13. Zeus looks like you took away his favorite toy.

Spending the weekend reading (newspapers and books) and relaxing, once I get chores done tomorrow morning.

  14. Do you know what?

I might just do the same thing and leave the computer off until Monday.

  15. @18 Aj: Power to you!! I have done it before its quite easy but this weekend I will need it so will not be keeping off or away from technology.

  16. Gee, no one said watching FOOTBALL??! Of course that must be the highlight of the weekend. Favre trying to be the Hero once more and with any luck face his team from last year. What could be better? And reading of course. Just have the games on for background noise. It will let you know when to look up from your book.

  17. So, my wife and I are in the middle of watching the new Star Trek movie…and sorry folks, I think it’s awful. I’m a real fan of the original series, as well as Next Gen and DS9….but this movie. It’s just bad in many many ways….I can’t be the only one who thinks so.

  18. The science was awful. I did like how they explain it so that they can restart the franchise though. Fun movie, and I just figure some Star Trek is better than no Star Trek. After all, I now watch a cartoon for my Star Wars fix.

  19. David, I guess I’m in a minority. If a movie has a high enough level of “stupid non-science” in it, it completely ceases being “fun”. I just re-read the original thread discussion and Matthew Rotundo made several points that pretty much echo my own feelings.

  20. For those watching football….

And as the ball sailed through the uprights, the partiers spilled out into the streets of the Vieux Carre shouting and carrying on, and made it look like — a normal weekend in New Orleans.
