Green Giveaway: Act Quickly! (UPDATE: All Gone Now)

Edit, 12:45pm: Well, that was quick. All copies are taken. Thanks!

And now, a message from Subterranean Press publisher Bill Schafer:

As many of you know, our pal Jay Lake has been undergoing cancer treatment. The great news is that he just finished his last chemo infusion session. As a small example of our fondness for Jay, and to mark the occasion, we’re giving away ten hardcover copies of his ultra-great novel, Green. (Seriously, we’ve been jonesing for a copy of the file to the sequel here in the SubPress offices. All work will likely stop once Jay sends an e-copy of Endurance our way.)

So we’re not eaten alive by postage costs, this giveaway is open to US residents only. What you need to do is send an email to that contains the Subject line GREEN, and your name and address. Anything else and we’ll move on to the next lucky entrant. We’ll be sending out copies later this week to the first ten respondents to this Scalzi-blast. One thing, though. (Isn’t there always a catch?) By accepting the copy of Green, you agree to read it within three weeks of receipt, and post a review (good, bad, or middling, it matters not to us) over at

Okay? get emailin’.

You heard the man! Get to it!

  1. “Anything else and we’ll move on to the next lucky entrant. ”
So if my work mail system adds their regular “stuff”, does that DQ me?

What was I doing working when I should have been refreshing Whatever every 5 minutes??

  3. I already won two contests from Sub. Press in the last year. I’m happy but I’m glad I missed this one.

  4. Oh this is so my fault for logging off…instead obsessively checking my reader….
    Mad, Mad, Mad…..
    sulking, sulking…

  5. 40K hits a day. 10 copies, poof! Done. 12:41 post, 12:45 done. This Scalzi blast lasted about as long as an explosion.
So am I clever or an asshole? Naturally I think I am clever but I could be an asshole displaying Dunning-Kruger Syndrome.

  6. Rembrandt @10: Ooo, awesome pitch for Mythbusters. What’s the fastest way to get rid of a box of books — stick of dynamite, or giveaway on Whatever?

  7. I am pretty sure C4 is faster than dynamite but even that may not be fast enough to beat Scalzi’s minions when it comes to swag in the form of books. Break out the high speed cameras Adam and Jamie.

  8. meow :( I already do own a copy though. I want me some Endurance soooooooooooo bad!

  9. I’ve already got the Kindle edition of Green, but you know what, I think I’m going to go buy Escapement now.

  10. well shit, go on vacation, forget your power cord, and miss out on contests. stupid vacation. (seriously, not going well)

  11. I got a copy of Zoe’s Tale this way from SubPress, and (upon finishing it) had to buy the other 3 books in the series. This is seriously good PR! :D

  12. I’m glad Jay has made it this far, and not *just* for the purely selfish reason that I want him to continue writing such entertaining works for years to come ;)

::offers Jay a Fox News-disapproved, terrorist fist bump in celebration::

  13. Awwwwww, if only I’d a) not missed this and b) not been a UK resident and citizen… I could’ve read the book in that time! …If it had arrived within that time, I coulda read the book in that time! And I review everything I read anyway!

Ah well. Either way, tis a good thing to get Mr. Lake more out in the public eye, and it’s also very good of you to promote your “competition” (as if authors compete per se… buying a tends to delay, rather than preclude, buying b, in my experience!).

  14. I’m bummed I missed this, and yet the cover of the book is intriguing enough to make onto my Powell’s list for next week.

  15. this is looking nice – should I do it, like I did when I was 13 and by consequently after feeling good with the cover? So what! – when do you ever have the chance beeing 13 again – thanks for recommendation John
