It’s too nice to stay inside. Here’s the front porch with dog, cat and computer.
How is your work day going?

Inside where it’s air conditioned. Dawg at feet (making it hard to get out of chair if I wanted to).
Oh yes, I gotta get me some of that sweeeet novelist lifestyle . . .
On the couch, fighting some viral nastiness. Rewriting the Five Points script, making a thank you video for backers, editing a video report for day job.
On the plus side, the heat dropped some and I’m listening to Pale Blue Eyes while checking out some leaves growing outside my window. Not too shabby.
Just looking at all that nature makes me want to sneeze.
Here in Texas we are 88 F and heading to 93 F today. With an extra dose of mugginess.
5th load of laundry in, toddler napping, mail opened but not dealt with. Which is to say more industrious than usual, go me!
Sooo jealous of that beautiful work view. Were I to step outside my office, my eyes would sting, my throat would burn, my head would hurt, and I would sneeze… due to smoke from a massive wildfire here in Southern New Mexico.
Enjoy your beautiful fresh air! *sobs*
Sadly I can’t even see a door, let alone a window. I may as well be in a submarine. Sigh…
Much the same! Ahhhh, telecommute tech support *waves from Phoenix*
Waaa waaa whine whine not a work day hasn’t been a work day for months whine whine cheese whine.
So, not so good.
Gotta plant some citronella in my garden. When the weather’s nice, the very few times it isn’t too hot or too cold to be outside, there are too many mosquitos!
Otherwise, it’s just another work Wednesday. Alot of hurry up and waiting.
On the couch, with laptop and dog beside me. I want your sunshine!
Jon, I’ve got some pamphlets about workers’ rights that might interest you. Rise up, my brother!
In the office, being bombarded by anxious seniors. I can see the commencement setup going on outside the window.
My jealousy is epic. EPIC, I tell you!
Just exactly like yours! Well, except it takes place in a badly lit freezing cubical with no windows anywhere to see the outside world, The large beast that barks too much & craps on everything is out at lunch at the moment & the cat who wants to remain aloof but thinks he rules the entire scene is on vacation this week. Oh, and creativity is expressly forbidden.
Oh, passably. My work machine died, so I am spending the day learning to use this here new-fangled ASUS tablet. So far, ME LIKEY!
Probably looks like the indoor scene at my workspace right now – one brown dog, 2 black & white cats, laptop. What’s missing? Me. – I’m here at my other workspace, the one that provides a steady paycheck until I can be as successful as you. Maybe I can test the cats and dog for any latent writing skills so they can help out.
It’s nice to be home with wife, son, dog, desk-top PC. Spent a full week with my wife relaxing at a 3-star resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in Potemkin-village mode (new trees being planted along main road) about to host G-20, 7 days without being able to log-in to Facebook, or writing ANY fiction (despite my normal 2,000 word/day fiction writing quota) but thought through many plot and character issues, My wife and I did, on this trip, co-author a complete draft paper on Calabi-Yau manifolds and Cosmology. Great material, but rather too abstract for major market Science Fiction.
On the fifth floor of a 109 year building in downtown DC. Going well as I await the US Men’s National Soccer Team match this evening versus Brazil out at FedEx.
Jealousy, I haz it. Its 90 degrees here in Houston.
Youngest cat woke me up at about quarter to six this morning. He has a rather bad habit of climbing on top of my pillows when I’m asleep. Still haven’t been able to take a nap, feeling kinda twitchy as a result. Five hours of sleep, when I’m used to around nine, is just…meh.
Seems like the humidity’s hitting rather earlier in the summer than I’d hoped for, but, after all, it is Houston. Staying inside, trying to take it easy. My cat is sleeping behind my monitor, not sure where the other two are.
Hubby should be home in a few hours, then I imagine it’s likely we’ll head over to my inlaws’ to see how Mom’s doing. She had a femoral head replacement about a month ago; she just got out of the rehab place yesterday.
Parked at the Children’s Desk; Summer Reading Program started preregistration yesterday, and the usual chaos ensued. The kids I’ve been signing up have better manners than some of the adults! Naturally, I am directing the older ones who express an interest in science fiction to things Scalzi et. al.
Too nice to stay inside? I think I remember that from March, we might get there again in Tuscaloosa by October. It could be worse today, not TOO humid and it’s hot enough so it isn’t freezing in my office.
It’s too damned hot to work outside in West Texas. Wish I lived somewhere cooler. Lucky you.
Much the same, except while you are avoiding work by posting on your blog I am avoiding work by reading it.
Idle question: while working in your workspace(s) this year, have you been writing a new book for release next year? (Yeah, yeah, I know, Redshirts isn’t even out yet and already someone wants a new book. Ingrates, that’s what we are.)
Still shackled to my fluorescent-lit desk in Koobikal Hel, near enough to a window to see the delightful weather. (Though, of course, now that quiting time’s approaching it’s starting to cloud over. *sigh*)
— Steve
Busy Busy day in my cave here in the library. But, Redshirts is sitting on my desk right now! The truck didn’t show up yesterday! I had to restrain myself from asking the driver, “What the hell?”
June 5th is a crazy busy day for new books. We got so many boxes in, my partner asked if we’d pissed someone off. However much of it I manage to read on my breaks the next couple of days, I promise I’m still buying it, and already recommended it as a Father’s day gift to the wives of my fellow SciFi geek friends. Almost all of whom are fathers. In fact I’m pretty much the only one who isn’t a father yet. Oh well, I’m still kind of young.
I’m only technically completely cheating, with the early reading of the book. Don’t tell on me.
The fire trucks went to a different building, so my day was okay.
Another librarian at work here. Trying to finish up some cataloging before our system is out of whack for a few weeks. We just switched to summer scheduling so its 7 hours of non-stop fun. On the bright-side I’ll be home after my kids get out of school so we can spend some quality time together.
Ensconsed in my cubicle, wading through miles of paperwork, taking telephone calls from folks who think they know my job better than me, waiting for my youngest daughter to tell me about her job interview in Oklahoma, eating “Wisconsin cheese soup” at a local diner that was WAY too salty AND counting the minutes until quittin’ time.
Better than most days…
John, if you weren’t such a talented writer and otherwise obviously good people, I would hate you with the heat of a thousand dying suns.
Looking on the bright side, it’s been *months* since there’s been a sewage leak into the basement workspace they banished us into.
wow. I like your work environment. me==booooored. want out. feel like a dog that needs a walk. grey cubicle walls meh…and helping people. super meh. need a martini and a wrassle with a 4 year old.
My workspace is in an industrial building with no windows and few doors, usually crawling in, around and under dusty/dirty machinery.
So, equal parts envy and jealousy I think.
Why I want to be an author.
