As today is a double book release day, I’ve got lots of links for you to get your click on at.
1. First, a contest from ThinkGeek!
You’re being sent on an Away Mission, so what better way to prepare yourself than with this Away Team Kit? Best part about it is there’s a signed copy of John Scalzi’s Redshirts included! It’s got everything you need to succeed!
…at dying. Sorry, did we fail to mention that you’re sporting a red shirt? Good luck out there, buddy!
Click here to enter the contest, which is only open until 5pm ET, Wednesday, January 16th. You can also buy the Away Team Kit directly right here. All Away Team Kits include signed copies of Redshirts!
2. New York Times Best Seller (for the excellent Gun Machine) Warren Ellis has nice things to say about “The B-Team” over on his site:
What comes out is rich and smart and funny – still very much a good-time rollercoaster entertainment, but also pleasingly human and self-aware as it rattles along its tracks, scattering spaceship wrecks, lethal diplomacy, species dieback and interstellar spookshow paranoia in its wake.
Yes. All that. Ad if you’d like a second opinion, here’s a spoiler-free review from Stainless Steel Droppings.
3. Want to read me discussing The Human Division at further length? How could you not? So then I have two links for you. The first, over at Amazon’s Kindle Daily Post, I’m talking about how the episodic nature of The Human Division came about. And then, over at the Nook Blog, I write about the challenge of making a new book in an established series, and how I avoided the pitfalls. Both are good, quick reads.
4. There’s still time to enter the Choose Cory Doctorow’s Scanned Face poll. Go there. Now.
5. Oh, and hey: My pals Paul & Storm have their new Web show live and running. Meet Learning Town! And while you’re at it, listen to notable geeks like Felicia Day, Neil Gaiman, Scott Sigler, Garkfunkel and Oates and even me share our memories of the Learning Town show from our childhood. It’s all true.
There, that should keep you busy.
I love contests. Of course, I just won a pocket watch from the Looper movie people, so my contest karma is too low to win this basket of goodies, but it’s still fun to enter.
It is indeed a Full day in Scalzi nation! Congratulations! Very excited about having an Old Man’s War treat coming to my Kindle every Tuesday for the next several weeks.
Thank you for the all the fun links and for the inclusion of mine.
Wow. There is so much awesome going on up in here.
Dammit Scalzi! (I’ve said the phrase way too many times, especially since I don’t actually mean it in any real sense of the phrase…..but it does roll off the tongue) I made a promise to myself that I would not buy anything other than food for the next 2 months (I’m saving up for my wife’s 40th birthday and my parents 50th anniversary.! This is making it HARD!
If I don’t win, I think I’m still going to buy that shirt.
(Now if only there was an official “Redshirts” shirt I could buy.)
The Away Team Kit makes me so happy! I can’t enter to win it because of my connection to TG, but I’m thrilled to see my t-shirt is part of the collection of goodies – especially with your book!
I’ve only recently discovered your blog, so I’ve been spending a ridiculous amount of time reading old posts and comments. Thank you. And Congratulations!
Robert Junker:
There are.
The TG contest form requires which “social media” let you know about it, but only knows about G+, Twitter, FB, and Pinterest.
I noticed that, Sean Eric. It’s like they don’t think anyone (even Scalzi!) will repost it or blog it.
I put Twitter because the others… *makes gagging noise*
So many links, so little time!
I entered just so I could get the shirt that says “Expendable”. While the size they’re offerent won’t come close to fitting me, I look foward to the look on a friend’s face when I hand it to her. Muahahahaha!
Damn, and here I’d hoped that REDSHIRTS Kit was on sale from ThinkGeek!
One thing – a “Size M” shirt? Do they, er, know their market are (to quote Joe Bob Briggs) “BIG Fans”?
@timeliebe: perhaps they are giving it away because they could not sell it?
Thanks for the links and contest info.
More to the point, thank you for Redshirts. I finished it this morning, which makes me happy (because it rocks) and sad (because it’s over, of course). I left a spoiler-free review on amazon.com, on goodreads.com and on my blog, where I have a small-but-faithful following.
Again, thanks.
You better get your autopen working overtime. Right now, the ThinkGeek site is completely sold out of all sizes. We don’t want you to get writer’s cramp and not be able to continue working on your other projects. :)
For the social network, I actually clicked on choose one, and let it go at that. It seemed to take it, which is good, because the other choices, meh.
Argh. Just went to buy the kit and they are totally sold out. Since I am prolly never going to be able to make it to a con my dream of having a book signed by you is dashed into the rocks. I am made of sad.
