Yes, I am Alive.

But I am traveling this morning. Will update when I get home, which with all luck will be in the afternoon. For now, I will just say that my time away from the Internet was nautically delicious. See you all in a bit.
Yay! Oh heck, it was the JoCo Cruise, wasn’t it? Should’ve figured that out earlier … Welcome back, when you get here/home.
Damon. And here I was all set to steal your jello.
;)
I wasn’t “damn”.
I figure Bruce has the right of it. Welcome back you fortunate bastard!
I hope that doesn’t mean that John was on board the Carnival Triumph.
If so, my deepest sympathies.
I figured it was JoCo Cruise Crazy earlier when Wheaton blogged he was going at exactly the same time you disappeared. Wish I could have gone, and welcome back.
Zoë Keating was able to tweet from #JCCC3. Just saying.
I bet a friend you were on JoCo Cruise. I get to collect my $20 now.
I’ve been really enjoying the Somethings Really Old. Please, take as much time as you need.
I can neither confirm nor deny that video will shortly be posted to the Internet of John Scalzi falling on his ass while performing karaoke. I can, however, confirm that it will be even more awesome than you can possibly imagine.
I’m glad it was something nice, and not a leave to deal with family issues or one sort or another.
I was so worried that it was severe burnout of one kind or another, or a crisis of an unpleasant kind! So glad it wasn’t, and glad it sounds like you had a good time.
And tomorrow is Tueday!
Good to have you back! While I’ve enjoyed the glimpses of decades past, I’m looking forward to the new def jams. As the kids would say.
I have to say that ‘nautically’ is possibly stretching the description a bit; I initially mistook the ‘Freedom of the Seas’ for an apartment block built on top of a multi story car park when I encountered it in the Caribbean. But I’m really glad that much fun was had…
The Carnival ‘Triumph’ Cruise: new ways of losing weight, all of it organic! Sign up here, please.
Ha! So you did elope with Wheaton! I knew it.
All kidding aside, I hope you enjoyed the JoCo Cruise as much as he apparently did. I’m also fairly confident you’re extremely grateful not to have been on the Triumph.
And the minions rejoice!
How do we know it’s really him?
When we parked in the lot for our cruise, it did seem rather a lot more like a parking lot for a row of large office buildings than for means of transport.
I actually took some trouble to find a forward facing observation deck on Carnival Destiny. They didn’t exactly make it easy to find since there is nothing really going on there. It was very breezy, very lonely and kinda cool. The bridge crew waved down at me, and the “I’m on top of the world” deck below me was off limits to passengers and appeared to be the crew smoking lounge. Along the way I even found “10-forward” which was the health club & spa. Of course I had been hoping to find a bar with a big observation window for some reason.
Mike
I’m told that they build them for people who don’t want to know that they are at sea; i.e. suspended over a great deal of water. The crew was probably amazed to discover that they had a passenger able to deal with this phenomenem…
Stevie, the ship had plenty of places to see the water, but that forward deck is pretty breezy and nit particularly warm.
