Reminder: I’m at Engadget Expand This Weekend + at RT Booklovers Convention in May

Remember that if you are in the Bay area this weekend and yearn to hang about with techies and nerds and people who are some variation of both, that I will part of the Engadget Expand conference taking place at Fort Mason, in San Francisco. And specifically, here is what I’ll be doing on Saturday:
04:30 – 05:15 PM: Robots, Lasers and Replicators: Making Science Fiction a Reality
Science fiction has long had a strong influence on the world of consumer electronics, shaping the look and behavior of our devices. But, so too have modern gadgets worked to shape sci-fi. In this conversation, we speak with notable sci-fi thinkers and producers about the relationship between imagined and real-world technology.
Speakers: Veronica Belmont, Co-Host, Tekzilla; John Scalzi, President, Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America; Daniel H. Wilson, Author of Robopocalypse; Tim Stevens, Editor-in-Chief, Engadget (moderator)
Robots! Lasers! Replicators! Replicating robots with lasers! And so on! Oh, and there will be other panels and events too, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Before you ask, no, I don’t have any other public events scheduled this time around; I’ll be spending most of the rest of time there seeing friends and such. So this is the best way to see me until sometime in May, when I’ll be in the Bay Area again for my tour and for the Nebula Awards in San Jose.
Speaking of May, and specifically the 3rd and 4th of May (that’s a Friday and Saturday, respectively), I will be popping in to the RT Booklover’s Convention in Kansas City, and participating in several events there on those days. One event there that will be open to the public (with a small admission fee) will be the Giant Book Fair, which has a ton of writers, including me, signing books. So if you’re in the KC area and you want to see me, that’s where and when to do it; I don’t have any other appearances planned in the area.
And yes, I’ll be updating my Scheduled Appearances page with all this stuff soon.
I will have to work with my former colleagues at RT to provide you with another commemorative CD. If I had a mustache, I would be twirling it right about now.
Alas, we are otherwise engaged this weekend, as that sounds like a fine event to attend. We shall have to wait until May and the Nebulas.
PS Don’t forget about the martini-making robots!
Good timing. We’re having perfect California weather this week.
The weather is so great you’ll actually want to have techie discussion out in the Big Blue Room.
Also, if anyone gets the chance to have a drink from @Kevin Roche’s bartender robot, do it. It’s a thing of beauty and a joy forever, or at least till the party ends.
Have a great time, Scalzi!
Veronica Belmont? I’m envious – I watch her and Patrick Norton’s TEKZILLA podcast every week.
Yeah, Veronica is awesome.
