To usher us into the new year, a grab bag of photos I like, not previously collected, that I took in 2013.
See you next year!

They are all great, but that vampire-repellent beardy photo WINS.
Great pictures. I particularly like the landscapes and sky pictures.
I especially like the photo of the Higgs boson looking evasive when asked if it was one of a trio, or one of a pentuplet. In 2015 the LHC will open, new and improved, and many a dissertation shall be written unto that. I’ve already written my story “Luck, Be a LHC Tonight”, so you are first in line for a 2015 Higgs story.
Excellent pictures.
Good stuff, man. The second one reminds me of a place I walk under when taking the dog out in summer. Looks a lot like that. I tried taking a picture of it, but you nailed those colors.
The bearded Scalzi pic reminds me of the cover of an O’Reilly book. :-)
Best wishes for a fantastic 2014, John!
“They are all great, but that vampire-repellent beardy photo WINS.”
I like the evidence of incipient mania. It’s something Van Helsing might have experienced on his best days, and it would definitely give Edward Cullen pause. He wouldn’t be able to fit it in with his brooding.
More great pics. I seriously think you should do a book of your pics. Normally they aren’t big sellers, but with your name behind it I think it would do ok.
Excellent pix. I particularly like the first three :).
Happy New Year, John and fellow Whateverians! May the things about 2013 that sucked suck less in 2014 and may the things that rocked about 2013 rock more in 2014.
Why can’t I ever take pics like these?
They’re all great.
I second Guy Medley’s idea. ‘Cause you need more ideas for books. ;-)
Happy New Year!
Why is an outline of Texas engraved into the Hugo award? Just curious.
I hope somebody got you a personal grooming device for Christmas.
Happy New Year.
Gary, I believe its because it was presented at the LoneStarCon in 2013.
what beautiful moments.
I’m not the only person who’s mentioned on previous occasions that some of your photos would make good book covers.
But that self-portrait in the middle of this gallery… next edition of Stephen King’s THE SHINING, for sure.
