Oh, Look, Traveling Again

I am loitering in the Charlotte airport, on the way to Los Angeles. As a result, there probably won’t be a lot here today, at least not until I am ensconced at my hotel in California.
The only thing I am sure of is that there is an In-N-Out Double Double in my near future. And that is a good thing.
There’s a pretty good barbecue place in that airport.
In the event that you need more choices as you encounter In-N-Out, here is some info on their Secret Menu: http://badmouth.net/in-n-outs-secret-menu/
Double double animal style perhaps?
I had a Double Double, animal style for the first time in years last week. Ambrosia. Why oh why can’t they come to Chicago?
I first lived in Cali in 2003 and it was one of the first things that was recommended to me. I am not sure (nor have I bothered to research) why the chain never expanded East or into the Midwest. Now I am craving one and it’s only breakfast… Dang it.
Ebbr:
As a native of Southern California, I knew the secret menu since I was a child.
AH yes…the one thing California still does better than everyone else.
Todd: Not true. In-N-Out can now be found in Texas.
Try the secret menu item 4×4 at InO.
“In-N-Out Double Double”
Had to google that. I like Ivar’s and Zippy’s.
In the early days, the rule was that In-N-Out couldn’t move farther than a days ride from their supplier farms. And their farms were only in SoCal. This meant they could only expand so far. During the Nineties, it was decided they could use other farms and the expansion was on.
I always enjoy the first bite of In-N-Out after I haven’t had it for awhile. It’s like prancing with unicorns and swimming through gold coins like Scrooge McDuck all at the same time.
West coast has In-N-Out, midwest has White Castle. Fair trade.
In-N-Out burgers are fine. I’ve had a few. But, they do not particularly stand out above the crowd of their competitors. A Whataburger Double-Green-Chilie Burger eats just as well as an In-N-Out Double. McDonalds french fries do just as well. All this adoration to In-N-Out seems overdone. Just sayin’.
In-n-Out and White Castle are not, I repeat, NOT, in any way comparable. Let the war begin!!
Phew, I had to think a minute whether this would technically be a violation of your Lenten abstentions.
I have been working on the perfect In-N-Out order. My current favorite is: 2 cheeseburgers, mustard grilled, with whole grilled onion (it’s a whole slice, not a whole onion), protein style. Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to eat them without making a giant mess, but using a lettuce wrap rather than the bun (i.e., protein style) makes me feel better about the whole adventure. And ordering 2 cheeseburgers, rather than a double-double further increases the vegetable intake. It’s practically health food!
Or at least it was until I added the well-done cheese fries. Oh well, it was worth it.
If you haven’t tried the mustard grilled option, you should give it a go. It was a revelation to me.
Great, now I want a Double Double. Thank Crom I live in Los Angeles…
Wait…the route you’re flying is Dayton–>Charlotte–>LA? Wasn’t there something a little more direct, or was your hidden objective to collect additional frequent flyer miles?
And now, I have The Who’s “Squeezebox” running through my head.
Plenty of room at the hotel [in] California. Such a lovely place….
