I’m going to Phoenix Comicon this upcoming weekend, and holy buckets am I doing a lot of stuff — so much that I’m cutting and pasting the comicon’s information about the panels/events here, and suggesting you follow the links to the fuller descriptions:
- Phoenix Comicon Books and Authors Kickoff : Thursday 7:00pm – 8:00pm
- Putting the Science in Science Fiction : Friday 10:30am – 11:30am
- Comedy’s Hard-The Secrets of How and When to be Funny : Friday 1:30pm – 2:30pm
- Writing for the Long Haul : Friday 4:30pm – 5:30pm
- Paul and Storm Concert : Friday 8:30pm – 10:30pm
- From Page to Screen: Redshirts and The Expanse : Saturday 10:30am – 11:30am
- Author Batsu Game : Saturday 4:30pm – 5:30pm
- Spotlight on John Scalzi : Sunday 12:00pm – 1:00pm
- The Military in Speculative Fiction : Sunday 1:30pm – 2:30pm
- Jay Lake, His Life and Work : Sunday 3:00pm – 4:00pm
With that said, I do want to call specific attention to the Paul & Storm concert, which is actually “Paul & Storm & Pat & John” concert, in that Paul and Storm, Patrick Rothfuss and I all will have (more or less) equal time at the event, doing our various things. It’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun. They’re giving us one of the big rooms for it, so please come and bring every single person you know. You won’t regret it.
When I’m not at a panel, during the day I am likely to be at my table in the author’s row at the comicon (I’ll also be doing some time at the Tor booth as well). Trust me, I will not be difficult to find.
Oh God…I SO wanted to attend this, and then you had to tell me about the P&S&P&J concert. Even worse, I can’t attend because I’m going to my father’s memorial service instead, which I really don’t want to attend for oh, so many reasons.
(I’ll also be doing some time at the Tor booth as well)
You make it sound like a prison sentence. Have Fun! :)
Dude … we’re expecting 100K+ people this year. No matter how big of a room we give you for the concert, you still want to get there early if you want to get in. Not, you know, three days early, but definitely not right as the doors open.
Wasn’t this the year you were going to cut way back on your travel obligations? :)
“Writing for the Long Haul” and “The Military in Speculative Fiction” look interesting. Well, to me anyway. Have fun!
You get to hang out with Patrick Rothfuss? I love/hate you. And all you had to do was become a world famous sci-fi author.
Just for you, John, we’ve ordered in some cooler weather. We have a four-day special that brings the daytime highs down to no more than 108F and the nighttime lows (as in, just before dawn) into the upper 70s.
Of course, this comes with no warranty.
The other way to look at it is: the hotel is airconditioned. No ducking out. And after that, it’s right back up to 111F like the last few days.
