I am in the sky as you read this, headed to San Diego. While I fend off gremlins, please enjoy this latest stack of new books and ARCs that have arrived at the Scalzi Compound. If you see something that looks excellent to you, share with the class in the comments.
I really liked “The Prisoner of Heaven” when it came out last year; it’s more of a direct sequel to “The Shadow of the Wind” though it has a VERY interesting take on “The Angel’s Game.” Looking forward to whenever the 4th Cemetery of Forgotten Books novel is published.
That one second from the bottom appears it may be prognosticating about your grandchildren, John.
I can see my copy of Prisoner of Heaven from here. (Still haven’t read it, since I haven’t read book two yet.)
Do you receive a copy of each Subterranean Press titles as it is released? ‘Cause if that is the case, my envy knows no bounds!
As a big fan of “The Silent World,” I’m pleased to know that a new Graham Joyce book is in the offing.
The title of Kate Mayfield’s book intrigued me. The fact that it’s a memoir moreso. I’ll be picking it up.
When in doubt, always go with the Graham Joyce book.
So did you hand the next-to-bottom book to your daughter and ask, “is there something you meant to tell me?”
Every good take on Athena’s Daughter has been done, so I’ll skip that part.
Is that a new Greywalker novel I see?
Read The Arrivals from the library. Pretty good book.
@Marion: Yes, it’s a new Greywalker novel. That makes me happy. It’s also apparently the last book of the series. That makes me sad.
Graham Joyce. Melissa Marr. As if my to buy/to read list/pile isn’t large enough already.
Athena’ Daughter — Oh yeah!
Oooooh, “Revenant” – I’ve been looking forward to that one!
@David, oh, my emotions exactly; although I’m sure she’ll continue writing… won’t she?
@Marion, yes, she’s just finished the first draft of a new book. In case you’re interested, her blog is http://katrich.wordpress.com/
The Ghost in the Electric Blue Suit was already published in the UK in 2013 under the title ‘The Year of the Ladybird’. So not really a new Graham Joyce.
Because I already have this book under its original name, I’d take the Melissa Marr.
My most recent Mailbag was pretty light (notice: link goes to a video, in case anyone dislikes those), though I got the new ones from Carol Berg and Daniel Abraham, so that was exciting. The week before was much bigger, including new ones from Scott Westerfeld, D.B. Jackson, John Varley, Markus Sakey and more. I will look forward to getting the new Graham Joyce.
Athena’s Daughters! I just listened to one of the stories in the collection, Commando Bats by Sherwood Smith (it was featured on the Far Fetched Fables podcast) and it was faaaaabulous. Looking forward to reading the rest of the anthology.
Athena’s Daughters looks really good, as do most of these.
Really looking forward to the new Kat Richardson book. I’ll need to check and see if I’ve pre-ordered it. Although I’m still working on a short stack from my library that I can’t renew any more, and the latest Simon R Green book.
Ooh, I kickstarted Athena’s daughters but I don’t remember if I kickstarted enough to get the bound book or JUST the ebook. I’ll have to look into that. :D
