Been a busy week for new books and ARCs because, well, some weeks are like that. But on the other hand, it’s also been an excellent week, and today’s installment is no exception. See something you’re interested in here? Let me know in the comments!
Nobody’s Home, Cat Out Of Hell, The Devil’s Detective, and Clash of Eagles all look interesting.
The Devil’s Detective looks interesting…
Out of this batch so far I’ve gotten Clash of Eagles and Storm and Steel, and I believe I have Disciple of the Wind on the way. That little Tim Powers edition looks very nice.
Definitely intrigued by Young-Hee and the Pullocho! Will keep my eye out for that one.
An Ember in the Ashes, and also The Devil’s Detective.
Cat out of Hell is set to be my book club’s April read.
Didn’t you already get the one by Powers, John?
Hmm – new Tim Powers. I wonder if it will be great (Anubis Gates & Drawing of the Dark), needs a second reading (Last Call on the second reading, On Stranger Tides), impenetrable (Declare), or totally not to my taste (Expiration Date, Stress of Her Regard). Unfortunately for me, percentages and recent trend means I probably won’t love it. Well, library first, then.
I have Nobody’s Home (haven’t read it yet). Cat Out of Hell and The Devil’s Detective sound like books I want to read.
I’m in the middle of reading The Devil’s Detective. It’s very interesting, so far. I’m looking forward to Clash of Eagles, Sword, and Storm and Steel.
Tim Powers – Nobody’s Home
Younghee and the Pullocho caught my eye! I’ll get a copy when it’s published, to read on the plane to Korea next fall.
Hey, there’s my book! (Young-hee and the Pullocho). Awesome. Thanks so much, John.
And thanks to Duncan, too, for the nice comment.
Oops. And thanks to LMcCJ!
An Ember in the Ashes looks intriguing.
@Scalzi: You seem to get a lot of books – there is a few posts like this every month, so yearly intake would something like a dozen feet of books. What do you actually do with all the books? Do you have an enormous library or do you donate them?
As for the question – Tim Powers for me, I do not know other writers… He has written some excellent books but some bad ones as well. Worth trying out.
Ooh, Cat Out of Hell and The Devil’s Detective for me, please.
Tim Powers!
Tim Powers!
It’s interesting (as an aside) that the Young-hee book has the name of the publisher on the spine and not the author. That’s highly unusual isn’t it?
pr: The answer to your question is here: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2010/03/08/because-people-ask-book-acquisition-details/
This is a strange thing to comment, as I normally don’t pay attention to these posts but…somehow it caught my eye and I realized that one of these books was probably written by an old friend I hadn’t had contact with in around 20 years or so. (The author’s name is the same and my research seems to indicate it is the person in question). So, ummm…..thank you!
Nobody’s Home by Tim Powers. I would read pretty much anything he writes. He blew my mind with The Anubis Gates.
The Devil’s Detective. Sounds nice and dark.
