New Books and ARCs, 7/17/15

Welcome to the weekend — and to get you started, here’s a nice stack of new books and ARCs that have come to the Scalzi Compound. Tell me in the comments which ones excite your “gotta have it” neurons.

  1. I go through these photos and look up the books, and add stuff to my Amazon Want List, or library hold list. Sometimes I can tell just from the spine that it’s a book I’ll probably want. And then the description turns out to read like it’s EFP, and I’m terribly disappointed.

But hey, it’s restful, doing it.

  2. Yeah, I’m looking me for some new Cherie Priest! (did that make sense?) Chapelwood! Time to google!

  3. Night Witches! This is the first time I’ve seen an RPG book in the ARC pile. I backed this on Kickstarter and it looks great.

  4. Cherie Priest! Normally I’d also say Joe Abercrombie, but I think it’s a sequel to Half a King, which I haven’t read yet.

  5. Abercrombie, yes. I need to read more of him. Loved “Best Served Cold.”
I tried “Archangel” by Marguerite Reed after seeing it in one of these posts. It wasn’t half bad. Right now I am in the middle of “The Bullet-Catcher’S Daughter” by Rod Duncan, and am enjoying it very much – good, intelligent adventure. (How do I get Android to quit making the S capital after an apostrophe? Grrr! Don’t respond to this, I will Google it.) John, keep posting new books! This is a fun way to discover more titles :)

  6. Like, what, 80% of the commenters I’m very excited for Chapelwood. That said, I have to say that “Master of Formalities” is a splendid title and seems like the sort of thing I could get down with.
