Athena’s First Day of School, 2015

It’s an annual tradition for me around here to post a picture of Athena on her first day of a new school year, but this year I was on tour when that day rolled around. So Krissy took a picture instead, and now I’m posting it for the record. Here is Athena, on the first day of her junior year of high school. Sorry to have missed, but happy to see it now. We’ll do this again on the last day of school as well.

  1. Loved my Jr. Year. That’s when stuff really starting coming together. Have fun.

  2. Just you wait till next year and the last “first day” picture. You’ll get all wibbly.

    Ask me how I know.

  3. Junior year is notoriously the most difficult/stressful what with SATs/ACTs, AP classes and exams. We’re glad it’s over and our newly minted senior has already declared she is doing “nothing” this year… after she applies to colleges. Ha ha ha! So naive.

  4. Yeah, Junior Year is kind of the best year—you’re sort of on top, but you don’t have to make big decisions just yet. You can just enjoy the angst without consequences. Good luck to Athena!

  5. It’s funny – John Nemesh said she looks more like you as she grows, and I was thinking that she’s looking more and more like Krissy, at least from the photos that you’ve posted of both. A lovely young lady either way. I hope that 11th grade is as good to her as high school can be.

  6. I keep forgetting how young she is. This is because of her Twitter feed and the stories you tell about her, which make her sound much more mature than a HS junior has any business being!

  7. Rock on, Athena! Have a marvelous junior year. (And for what it’s worth, while John Nemesh and Cristy might see a resemblance to where you came from, the photo actually shows you looking more like yourself than either of your parents. Which is grand.)

  8. Ahh .. junior year in HS .. first year I drove my car to school and I didn’t have to ride an 8 mile bus loop from my farm home to Bradford HS. Now retired … I’d like to ride that school bus route one more time to see those kids, some now passed away, sights, sounds & smells. I hope your daughter savors her last few years in school before adult life hits!

  9. What a nice tradition. May there be first and last day of college and, if needed, graduate school. I wish that I had done that for my child. Athena will be taking pictures of your grand kids on the first and last day of school.

  10. She’s lovely, and the same age as my potential step-granddaughter who is also a lovely girl. I love teenagers; my kids were great all along but the most fun was during their teens. They just kept getting better and better.

  11. Have an awesome year! My suggestion is to work hard this year so you can get into a good school early next year, and thus slack the hell off and enjoy senior year. :D
