The Year in (Non-Kitten) Pets, 2015

This was a somewhat sad year at the Scalzi Compound, pet-wise, as two of our cats, Ghlaghghee and Lopsided Cat, left us — Ghlaghghee in January and http://whatever.scalzi.com/2015/11/07/lopsided-cat-2000-2015/. But then the two kittens we acquired, Sugar and Spice, have been making life interesting again as well. It’s a reminder that pets come and go and you love them while you have them. Here are the pets we had this year — minus the kittens, who will get their own retrospective — and suffice to say, we love, and loved, them all.

Finally, not a pet, but a creature I found in my yard this year, after a particularly heavy storm:

Never a dull moment here at the Scalzi Compound, I have to say.

Love your pets, folks. They love you.

Yes, to all your comments, especially about loving our pets. When it comes to unconditional love, critters define that concept, and we mere humans have a long, long way to go to live up to their example.

Please pass on an ear-rub to the very maternal Miss Daisy and a chin-scratch to the limber and louche Zeus for me. And thank you for sharing them with us and allowing us to experience them through your eyes.

John, I wish I could enjoy the pet photos, but this ain’t a good time of year for me. My mother died December 27th, a too short few years ago. Reminders of death, even of pets triggers the almost PTSD that comes along with the last years of dealing with Mother’s Alzheimer’s.
All that aside, MORE KITTEN PICS! Kittens and puppies are the light of the world, and there can’t be enough cuteness when it concerns either kind. :-) Kittens and puppies together are like the ultimate of what we can be as humans.
Sorry for the downer all. MORE KITTENS! MORE PUPPIES!

oops, I missed the crawdad/crayfish. I live in a part of South Carolina where you may hear it called either. Hell I’ve used both terms myself. Not that hard to catch in the streams around here, as long as you remember to grab behind the pincers. Otherwise, you’re asking for OUCH.

I do love my pets. Even when they’re peeing on everything. I can get annoyed at them, but I never forget that I love them. And they do love me.

It’s been just over a year since our patriarch cat Rufus passed away. I think of him whenever Ghlaghghee and Lopsided Cat are mentioned. I’m glad to see the pictures, even though it hurts.

BTW, think your tag linking to the post about Lopsided Cat lost its text.

I agree with Icarus; the shot of the crawdad look VERY like Cthulhu! (And now I’m wondering what Cthulhu would taste like with drawn butter …. hmmmm.)

Sorry for your losses this year among your furry family. But I hope the addition of the scamperbeasts to your tribe continues to be a source of joy and humor. To them, your other fur-family, and to Krissy, Athena, and you, here’s wishing you a very happy 2016, with much love and laughter.
