2015 in Scamperbeastery

Needless to say, the real big news of 2015 was the arrival at the Scalzi Compound of Sugar and Spice, aka Thing One and Thing Two, aka the Scamperbeasts. They arrived on the first day of November (which means tomorrow is their second monthaversary here)  and have made rather a large splash since then. I have taken many many many many many many pictures. For next year I suspect they will end up in the usual end-of-the-year pet roundup, but for this year, let’s so ahead and do a quick retrospective on their fuzzy conquering of the household. And remember that when you need a quick Scamperbeast fix, there’s an entire Flickr photoset devoted to them.

That last picture is from about 20 minutes ago, and is Sugar swatting at the camera, as if to say, “Enough with the pictures.” All right, Sugar. It’s indeed enough for the rest of the year.

  1. Oh, THIS is the post I’ve been waiting for! You could post these all year long, Sugar’s commentary notwithstanding, and I’d be just delighted. Happy New Year to the Scamperbeasts and their staff, and here’s to many many many many many more photos in the months to come!

  2. The look on Sugar’s fuzzy face in the first picture should have prepared you for the camera swat. None too happy that one. Still adorable. Happy New Year!

  3. You certainly have a nice camera (seriously doubt most of these were taken with a smartphone) and we love the beautiful shots of the Scamperbeasts, but please, Scalzi, no more high definition pictures of your hairy f-ing Frodo feet!

  4. They are a gorgeous pair :) . Would have liked a pic of one of them being a shoulderkitten, but I will check the Flickr for that…

  5. All the ladies in these pictures are lovely. Best wishes for a Happy New Year to the entire menagerie. Including the bipeds.

  6. I’m really happy that the Scamperbeasties have got their humans wound around their little paws, that being the proper order of the world; I hope that you all, feline, canine and human, have a wonderful 2016 along with what remains of 2015…

  7. John, given the camera angle for some of these shots you had to be stretched out on the floor. Krissy or Athena should include a pic of you contorting yourself while photographing the whiskerandoes. Happy New Year to you and yours!

  8. Das Kattschen are definitely maturing; you can see a difference between some of the photos at top and later down the feed.

Just bought my tix for HawaiiCon 2016; in under the wire for discounted passes. W00t!

  9. So I went to the Flickr and immediately started thinking, “Oh God how did he leave out…?” So for those who felt the same way (and, to be clear, obviously this is just me squeeing over cuteness and not actually blaming you for leaving out all the cute photos in the world):
    Possibly my favourite… https://www.flickr.com/photos/scalzi/22595835910/in/album-72157658530894674/

    Such sweet little furballs!

  10. As a half-Italian with 4 hairy brothers, I have only this to say, people: quit complaining about hairy feet! And also, aah, yer just jealous :D

  11. Your feet are apparently not as ticklish as mine, since the wee cat is not sailing, kicked across the room. My fave is that black and white shot of them asleep on the paisley pillow.

  12. Okay, I’ll admit it. This blog needs more Daisy and Sugar, just because the two of them remind me of a couple of long gone pets.

  13. The one with them ‘exploring’ the toilet bowl gave me a belly laugh. So reminds me of my now-departed guy who was always fascinated by the concept of the toilet. Though he did not want anything to do with the actual water. Unlike some dogs I’ve known who were offended the first time they saw me use the toilet for its intended purpose because “I drink out of that!”

  14. sure they look cute now. but when they grow up they will be conspiring on when and how they will do you in. do yourself a favor and get a dog or two (more) so at least SOMEONE with carnivore teeth will be on your side.

  15. Considering what the name “Scalzi” means, perhaps he does come from an ancient line of hobbits.
