Just in time for Canada Day and the 4th of July, here’s a fine collection of new books and ARCs that have come into the Scalzi Compound. Which of these would you like to spend a long weekend with? Tell me in the comments!
Crosstalk, by Connie Willis. I love her work.
Linell, I was about to write the same – love Connie Willis and that book leaped from the pile toward me.
New Connie Willis *and* Jeffrey Ford? (I love the former; he the latter) Our pre-orders just increased by two…
Yes, new Connie Willis. Loved Blackout and All Clear. You know, Scalzi, you get so many books you too could begin to leave stacks on bridges!

Cross Talk also. Listened to her reading a chapter of it at Sasquan in Spokane and I think it will be another winner by Connie.
“Beyond the Aquila Rift.” Hands down. Can I borrow it when you’re done?
Is that “Life Debt” written in the same present tense as the previous book?
What can you tell us about “Devil’s Evidence”? I don’t know anything about it but the spine’s very handsome.
Absolutely Connie Willis.
Life Debt! Alien Overlord looks fun too.
Crosstalk by Connie Willis and A Natural History of Hell by Jeffrey Ford.
The previous stack I didn’t recognise any of the authors. In this stack it’s just Connie Willis. Where are all these authors coming from?
At least JS isn’t in an industry of zero sum competition. Will I buy this book by JS or this book by … ? Oh, what the heck, I’ll buy both.
I would like to know more about A Natural History of Hell. That sounds interesting.
Connie Willis.
Me (reading): “My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord.”
My Teen Daughter: Aren’t they all?
“My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord.”
The next great American Novel right there.
Do you ever give these books out to fans? I’ll pay shipping on the Star Wars novel.
Connie Willis, Chuck Windig, and Alastair Reynolds all in one stack. Such wealth!
Connie Willis FTW!
>> What can you tell us about “Devil’s Evidence”?>>
Sequel to THE DEVIL’S DETECTIVE.
Whenever John does one of these, I go look up the books on Amazon, to see if I’d be interested. Usually, I add one or two books to my Wishlist. This time, I added six — The Ford, the Willis, the Oliva, the Ashton, the Dickey and THE DEVIL’S DETECTIVE, since the new one looks interesting but I’d figure it’s better to start at the beginning. So, good list!
Everyone run out (or stay in) and pre-order a copy of A Natural History Of Hell.
The Devil’s Evidence, b/c I enjoyed The Devil’s Detective so much. Also the Ford sounds intriguing (thanks, amazon!).
My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord looks interesting, especially because when I was young and in school, my entire class was convinced the gym teacher was at least and alien, if not an overlord.
Oops. “AN alien,” if you please.
Connie Willis!!! And maybe “Ghostland” as a gift for a friend, if it lives up to the description.
“A Natural History of Hell” is one of the best titles, ever.
Alastair Reynolds FTW!!
I really enjoyed Aftermath, so Life Debt’s where it’s at for me.
Connie Willis is the first I’ll read. Cuz it’s Connie Willis.
Well clearly I need to pick up some Connie Willis books in the near future.
