Thanksgiving, 2016

Putting these here for permanence.

  1. I am thankfuly I have you around to express most (not all) of what I think and feel. I’m also thankful to the followers you have that make me look at views from a different viewpoint. I’m thankful for all the people in my live who aren’t Straight White Christian Americans. Without them my life would be boring as sin, and worst of all empty!

  2. “I am thankful for my daughter Athena, who is consistently exactly the child I always hoped to have, in entirely unexpected ways.” describes exactly how I feel about my son, in a way I could never have expressed. Thank you!

  3. I’m thankful that my father’s coworker recommended Zoë’s Tale to him for a long plane ride, and that my dad thought to give it to me after, sparking a love of your books in both of us.

  4. Very nice. And we here in #4 are also thankful for all those things–because without them we wouldn’t have you and your marvelous books.

And, having met and interacted with you multiple times, I’m thankful that you’re as nice a guy as you are, and that sometimes the universe allows a genuinely decent person to have such great success. Have a great holiday, you deserve it.

  5. Beautifully said as always, John … Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

As for me, I’m thanks for that 2016 is almost over! And hopeful that 2017 will be kinder. And I’m thankful for wise and compassionate writers like you.

  6. I wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving. And the same to all of the clever commenters who have helped to make your blog a kind and entertaining place to visit. I am thankful, mostly for the man who is the love of my life, but also for you and all the other writers who have given me so much wonderful reading to do.

  7. And a Happy Thanksgiving to all!
The only one I have a bit of quibble with is the pets; the 3 a.m. wakeup call is why they were banished from the bedroom. That and the ‘special presents’ they sometimes left.

  8. Thankful for lots of things. Family, Good health. All the usual sorts of things.

Just one thing – I dont see any things “Putting these here for permanence.” here ????
Apparently I’m missing something for which I’m not thankful :(

  9. All are great, but #6, definitely. My situation has improved in the last 18 months, and I’m extremely thankful to be able to not only pay it forward but pay it back, too.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving to the Scalzis and all of youse Americans. ^_^ For Canucklehead and others who can’t see the tweet links – they’re visible for me in Outlook, but not here either.

“A list of things I am thankful for, in no particular order, follows this tweet.

“1. I am thankful for my wife Kristine, without whom I would likely be sitting alone in a one-room apartment, ordering pizza.
“2. I am thankful for my daughter Athena, who is consistently exactly the child I always hoped to have, in entirely unexpected ways.
“3. I’m thankful for friends, and for their creativity, and am in constant amazement I get to know such cool people doing spectacular things.
“4. I’m thankful for people who read and buy my work, allowing me to do the thing I always hoped I get to do when I grew up.
“5. I’m thankful for everyone who works on/with my books — editors, artists, PR people, booksellers, etc — their work makes my life great.
“6. I’m thankful that I am in a place in my life where I can help, when help is needed, because I remember needing help, too. Pay it forward.
“7. I’m thankful that nearly every day, even in rough or unexpected times, I look forward to finding out what happens next.
“8. I’m thankful I’m a better person than who I was before. I’m thankful I get to try to be a better person than I am, and that friends help.
“9. And yes, I’m thankful for my pets, who are adorable, even when they wake me up at 3am by sticking their furry butts in my face.
“10. Finally, I’m thankful I have so much to be thankful about, and hope to live in a way so others can have as many thankful things, too.

“So: Thank you, family, friends, world. It’s a good life. I remember that every day, and today most of all.”

  12. And somewhere on my list of things to be thankful for is:

Scalzi for being Scalzi and making himself available to us.

  13. And I am thankful for your words today. They – as often the case before – lifted me up. Thank you!

  14. No fair making me cry before I pop off to work. Thanks for reminding me about all the things I have to be thankful for.

  15. I’m thankful for great books and Whatever’s spot-on commentary. And for Zachary Quinto’s fabulous narration of “The Dispatcher.” More please!

  16. I’m thankful for Whatever, both the posts and the Commentary. I’m especially thankful for how John Scalzi has trained us about disagreeing POLITELY.

    Also, pie.
