  1. ATSOT was… Weird. It’s like Weber said “Oh crap I really should finish this story” and then it cascaded quickly into something resending resolution.

  2. I had the same feeling on ATSOT – it felt like the last few chapters were “do I really want to drag this out into another book? Nahh, but let’s leave a bunch of stuff unresolved just in case”

  3. I was a little disappointed in ATSOT also. I liked that DW had finally finished the series (although unanswered questions left room for additional books) but it had a hurried feeling. I do look forward to see what he produces next.

  4. I didn’t like The Vorrh but I thought the prose was good, so I might give The Erstwhile a try.

  5. Semi-relevant (if not, mallet), haven’t seen any Big Ideas pieces for about a month — a dearth and drought of submissions or feature on hiatus or what?

  6. Ooo, new Timothy Zahn and a StarCraft novel that extends the storyline further. One-clicked.

  7. “The Mad Scientist’s Daughter”? I really wouldn’t mind the end of the annoying trend of book titles of the form “The [Dude’s Profession]’s Wife/Daughter.”

  8. @xykademiqz, I’ve made it a personal rule for some time now that I don’t read books called “the man’s woman”. I just… bleh.

But I’ve had Six Wakes preordered for a while now! Woo hoo, can’t wait.

  9. The title Random Dingoes grabbed my attention. But Ira Nayman doesn’t show up on fantastic fiction. is this a first novel?

  10. And I see that The Book Smugglers really liked the first DARK DAYS book, THE DARK DAYS CLUB, and said the characterization was good, so I might give it and THE DARK DAYS PACT a try. At first glance it looked more like a paranormal romance than alternate history, but the review makes me think it leans more toward history/adventure.

  11. Wait, this is the last Safehold book? I didn’t know that was even an option. I assumed I’d be reading this series until I die, always getting more and more confused because there’s no way I’m re-reading the entire damned series every year to try and remember who all these characters with idiotically-spelled names are.

And I hate to say it, but it feels like there’s no way he can wrap up everything with just one more book, even a book as big as his tend to be. I’m waiting for it at the library, so I guess I’ll find out in a couple of weeks.

Man. Safehold’s ending. What a time to be alive. Of course, David Gerrold promised that the Chtorr series will be done before Obama leaves office, so maybe I’ll believe it when I see it.

  12. I’m super excited for SIX WAKES! I’ve been itching with anticipation since I first read the synopsis.

  13. Yes, yes, yes! I’ve been waiting forever for Six Wakes to be released and it’s nearly here ….

  14. My wish is for all works with women as protagonists and/or title characters forever henceforth to eschew titling said works based on her relationship to someone else or some some feature she has.

If she’s important enough to have a book written about her or a painting done of her, she’s worthy of being recognized as a whole person.

  15. I get paid over $87 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I’d be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced mee to try. The potential with this is endless.
