Everything Is Awesome!

Hello, everyone! Today I found out there is going to be a sequel to the cinematic masterpiece known as The Lego Movie, and it’s called The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which just makes me laugh, honestly.

I wanted to share this with you all because I think the first one is just so fantastic and I’m pumped for the second one, even though it doesn’t come out until next year.

The Lego Movie has such an awesome cast, awesome humor, awesome amounts of action, awesome music, oh, why am I saying “awesome” so much? Because, everything is awesome (I hope you have that song stuck in your head for days to come)! The first one was so much fun, I can’t wait to see how the second one compares.

I also really liked the Batman movie they did, as well, but I’ve never seen a Batman movie besides that one, so I don’t really have high expectations for Batman as a character in general.

Anyways, here’s the trailer:

And, of course, I hope you all have an “awesome” day!

  1. I can’t wait!! We saw The LEGO Movie when we were visiting my sister one Xmas. I wasn’t expecting much but was completely awed by how awesome it was.

  2. That song will NEVER leave my head. (True Story: After watching the first movie, I talked about how earwormed I was by Everything is Awesome. I finally relaxed and it went away after about three days…never should have told my husband and my child. They kept earworming me as soon as I would get rid of it…go around, pop up behind me, saying “Everything is awwwweeesoooo-ooo-mme..” Eventually, they didn’t leave it at that. This went on for about a month, randomly adding lyrics from It’s a Small World and Let It Go. It was NOT awesome…)

  3. YES! THIS IS AWESOME!

I liked the Batman Lego movie but it was only OK. I didn’t get any of the excitement that I got from the first Lego movie. I didn’t even bother watching the Lego-Ninja-whatever-it-was-called-movie.

    I can’t wait for Lego Movie 2!!! /me does a little dance.

  4. Beware! It’s all part of Denmark’s dastardly (but ingenious) plan to take over the world!

  5. That’s excellent news! Everything IS awesome! (At least when it comes to Lego movies.)

(It’s a wonderful song–I made sure to include mention of it when I informed the directors they’d been nominated for a Hugo in 2015.)

  6. My son’s been giving me updates on this, lol; he’s a bit of a Lego nerd (which I approve of, of course, even though it’s not my fandom). He’s almost 30, but there’s no age limit on Lego love.

That being said, I also loved the Batman and Ninjago movies, so I’m very excited about this one!

  7. This probably sounds random, but I appreciate your thoughts on movies and things that you say you don’t have a huge amount of background/investment in. You’ve said it here about Batman, and I believe you said it about Star Wars as well. Nerd-dom movie reviews seem predisposed to a “I have seen every Star Wars thing that ever there was so this review of The Last Jedi is going to be full of comparisons to every other Star Wars thing and talks of through-lines and legacies and cultural impact” mindset, and even movie reviews by professional reviewers are affected by the fact that professional reviewers see *so many* movies. There’s always an in-depth/expert bias going on. Which is fine, but I find myself really enjoying your stance of, “I don’t know everything that ever there was about this character or movie, I just want to go to movies and have fun, so let’s talk about whether this was fun.” It’s casual, but I like it, because I am casual about many things that I enjoy and I think the nerd tendency of knowing everything about everything needs to be tempered sometimes.

So thank you! And carry on.

  8. A “cinematic masterpiece”? Really? Then one wonders what adjective you might use to describe CASABLANCA, or GONE WITH THE WIND, or LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, or 2001: A SPACE ODDESY.

  9. Always looking for movies to take my 4yo to (his first movie was Secret Life of Pets). We tried watching the Lego Batman movie at home, but it seemed to move WAY to fast in the beginning. I couldn’t follow it and my son got board, so we turned it off after about 10 minutes. The Ninjago movie was better.

Anyway, between this, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Incredibles 2, we’ve got some good movies to see!

  10. Actually, it’s not ‘Batman,’ Athena. It’s ‘The Batman.’ Also acceptable is ‘The Dark Knight.’ I know, splitting hairs, but we must stand by our heroes.

  11. A Lego sequel? TOTALLY AWESOME! I love the trailer already and can’t wait to see what they do with it. I especially like that the bad guy uses exploding hearts.

  12. I thought that Batman did better as a supporting character than he did as a star turn, but YMMV. I do like (and hope that it’s not just one of those “all the good parts are in the trailer” syndrome) that they’ve captured the essential goofiness that was the charm of the original…

  13. It sounds like you haven’t seen a lot of pop culture ‘classics’ (Star Wars, Batman trilogy) – are you not interested in older movies or is it just a ‘never bothered / don’t have the time’ sort of thing?

  14. Batman is actually a cool character, even if that interpretation is a bit different than others.
There is a very wide range from the The Dark Knight to nani-nani Batman (the show in the 60s), which has a very different interpretation of the character.
