View From a Hotel Window, 10/23/18: Chapel Hill!

I’m overlooking a backyard today, which is, uh, a little weird.

Tonight: Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill! 7:15! Be there or be somewhere I am not! But serious, be there. I don’t want to be alone, especially on a book tour.

Tomorrow: 7pm at Quail Ridge books in Raleigh! So if you miss me tonight, but are in the general Raleigh-Durham area, you’ve got another chance to see me. Heck, since I’m doing the “rolling the die” thing to decide what things to do at my event, come to both! They will (statistically speaking) likely be different shows! And, of course, bring along everyone you’ve ever met.

Compared to the views from the hotels you’ve had at the other stops on this tour I imagine suddenly having a view of a private homeowner’s backyard is a bit weird indeed. But weird can be rather subjective on occasion: the 2nd most crappy, inexpensive motel in my town – a Super 8 Motel – which is a locally known hot-spot for drug trafficking and all sorts of other distasteful criminal activity, has right behind it the most beautiful quarry hole in the area. In defense of the Super 8 Motel however, the Motel 6 gets the rating of #1 crappiest only because it lacks the view of a beautiful quarry hole (I think it has an elementary school behind it, which also jacks up the creepiness factor). But for drug dealing and other crime, I suppose they’re both right up there in shittiness.

When you sign books in an airport store, does someone actually check to make sure you are the author before they let you sign the books?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I had a great time at the Chapel Hill event! 11/10 would go again! (But can’t go to Quail Ridge tonight, unfortunately). The d10 idea was what pushed me over the edge to go, but now I’ll go any time I can make it :-) I was also very lucky in that the three d10 results were the three I would have chosen.

We had a great time last night at Flyleaf! Thanks for picking my son to ask a question. He was very excited to tell my wife about it all when we got home. Looking forward to the next time you’re touring in town!
