New Books and ARCs, 4/19/19

I may be in London right now but that doesn’t mean I can’t still show off the new books and ARCs that came to the Scalzi Compound this week! Here they are. What here intrigues you? Tell us all in the comments.

Fleet Insurgent.
I love that you do this because it helps me find new books and authors and enables me to pre order those that have not been released.

I’m impressed that you can stack books and take photos at the Scalzi compound while on a different continent. I suspect a conspiracy (or at least collusion).

How is The Three Body Problem a new book or ARC? It’s been out for quite a while. New printing? Now I’m intrigued.

Ooh, new Fran Wilde. I didn’t know this was coming out. You obviously received a box from Baen given how much of this stack is from the one publisher. Many commenters are excited about The Dragon Republic; I really need to get around to reading The Poppy War. So many books, so little time.

Gordon R. Dickson! Glad to see the old boy is still in print. I agree with the earlier comment, though: wonder how well it’s aged. Like Heinlein, he could sometimes fuzz the line between studying a questionable social setup and seeming to advocate for it.

I remember someone recommending the Scot Reintgen NYXIA series to me, but I can’t remember details–just that I trust his opinion :) Anyone have a more informed opinion of those books?

I have to go with Stranger Thing: Darkness on the Edge of Town. The prospect of the gang from Hawkins teaming up with early-career Bruce Springsteen is very intriguing…

I loved “An Enchantment of Ravens” SO MUCH. I will offer up two two-thirds of my assorted Easter chocolate (this includes Double Chocolate Milk Stout) for “Sorcery of Thorns”.

If still in London, go up on the eye close to sunset for the great views, then walk across parliament bridge and around to The Cinnamon Club for dinner. (Reservation). That can be a great evening.
