New Books and ARCs, 8/9/19

I’m in Dublin all next week, so this week you get a super-sized edition of the new books and ARCs stack. It’s a very fine one, too. Which of these are calling to you? Tell us all in the comments!

I’ll need to check out “Spaceside” and “System Failure”. And maybe the three body problem one, but I have very mixed feelings about the first two. I enjoyed them, but I really had to concentrate.

Strongest faunch is definitely for the new Quillifer book. But anything by Walter Jon Williams is almost always an auto-buy for me.

Just started reading Claire North in the last year. Holey Moley, but she’s good!

I’m almost afraid to read Gideon the Ninth, because the buzz around it has been *so* extensive and *so* wildly enthusiastic. Feels like even if I love it, I won’t love it *enough*.

Goddamit, I want to get on your list of people that get sent ARCs to. There are enough books in this stack alone to keep me reading through Thanksgiving. And damn you for making me think of the holidays in August.

Alas, the obsessive compulsive in me just has to ask: did you mean 8/9/19 in the title? Sorry, I tried to resist, but it just kept staring at me, goading me to be annoying and point it out.

Salvage looks interesting, or at least the first book in the series does.

Flowers Of Vashnoi was great. Anything that fleshes out Barrayar from Ekaterin’s point of view is fine by me.

I could not get into the new Ringo series, possibly because it’s co written and possibly because after he made Sarah Palin President I just can’t even anymore.

I’m so looking forward to the new John Hodgman. If you haven’t read Vacationland, you’re in for a treat. Even better in audiobook format because he reads it himself, so you get to hear every nuance of his voice deliver moments of humor, humiliation, and humanity.
